UPMC McKeesport is hiring a Student Behavioral Assistant to work casual hours supporting our Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit!

The employee in the Student Behavioral Associate position is in a limited part-time position, which under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, assists in the provision of medical and psychiatric patient care. The incumbent receives practical experience relevant to their formal education track and career goals.
Responsibilities:
- Assists the nurse and other direct care staff in the provision of physical care and clinical intervention as assessed by client needs.
- Learns and utilizes up-to-date technology and practices in the delivery of patient care.
- Encourages patients to perform or assists them in the performance of activities of daily living.
- Documents in the medical record according to established policies.
- Takes initiative to ensure that unit environment is maintained.
- Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Manage crisis situations effectively using positive approaches.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and other activities.
- Attend a minimum of 1 unit based on Institute wide in-service yearly.
- Maintains ongoing communication with the treatment team and charge nurse regarding observations of patients? medical and behavioral symptoms and the care provided.
Qualifications
- Current full-time enrollment in an accredited school in a healthcare-related baccalaureate (Psychology, Counseling, Biology, or related field) OR Current full-time enrollment in a diploma, associate, or bachelor-level nursing program.
- Must be available and agree to work weekends and holidays. Must be able to work overtime.
- May in the course of their job duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed. In the course of duties may be asked to distribute medications to the nurse at the bedside. Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR is required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. CCM training is required within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter.
