UPMC is looking for Central Sterile Processing Techs to work at Children's Hospital!
We are currently offering SIGN ON BONUSES for all full-time Central Sterile Processing positions! 2+ years of central sterile experience is required for bonus. $5,000 Sign On Bonus for a 2 year work commitment.
The Sterile Processing Department is critically important to the hospital. The department cleans, sterilizes, and delivers surgical instruments and supplies to the operating room and other direct patient care units. Sterile processing technicians perform vitally important work that helps to assure patient safety when undergoing surgical procedures. The department also disinfects patient care equipment and numerous endoscopes that are used throughout the hospital. The work is challenging, exacting, and interesting and requires a high level of teamwork. Sterile processing technologists are highly trained and gain nationally recognized certification. The profession is dynamic and growing with high projected job growth for the next decade.
Primary shifts are available: 3pm-11:30pm (Evening - off-shift); and 11pm-7:30am (Night - off-shift).
Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the career ladder, based on their individual experience and education.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares and assembles surgical tray and equipment following established tray listings for issue, storage, or further processing.
- Conforms and adheres to department policies concerning decontamination, sterile processing, infection control and safety.
- Maintains a working knowledge of, and is able to effectively troubleshoot, all decontamination/sterilization equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as may be required to meet emergency situations
- Demonstrates knowledge of performance improvement tools and techniques. Continuously improves the quality of care and the work environment of outcomes and the integration of research and best practices into daily work. Shares learning from improvements with other units and/or spreads across the business unit or system.
- Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by building teams and relationships through mentoring and modeling uplifting and positive communication. - Monitors, reads, documents, and interprets all parameters for all types of sterilizers to ensure proper function.
- Develops and improves skills through initiative, attendance and participation at educational programs
- Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills.
- Assesses supplies required for prescribed standard surgical procedures and sets up case carts. Maintains inventory, collects, disassembles, inspects, cleans, disinfects and reassembles all instrument trays patient care equipment.
- Displays awareness of cost containment in the organization of work by using economy in time, motion and material.

- Cleans and decontaminates reusable equipment, instruments, and supplies, manually and mechanically.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Six months of healthcare experience or currently enrolled in an Accredited Surgical Technician/Sterile Processing Program Preferred
- Must complete 10 hours of continuing education to remain qualified as a Central Sterile Technician on an annual basis
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution or Certified Registered Central Service Technician or International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management certification required.
- New employees will have 18 months from date of hire to obtain the required certification
- Employees active in a Central Sterile position, on or before the effective date, at a healthcare facility, are grandfathered regarding the certification and will not need to obtain it unless they move into a different position that would require certification.

- Act 73 FBI Clearance
