UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. Are you looking for a rewarding career in Emergency Medical Services? Do you enjoy helping others? UPMC Williamsport is accepting applications for full-time employment from students enrolled in an accredited paramedic training program in the graduating class of August 2024.

This training opportunity allows the paramedic student to maintain full-time employment with UPMC while gaining valuable hands-on experience working alongside a knowledgeable Paramedic preceptor!  

*The successful candidate will commit to a 2-year business agreement.

Provide basic life support (BLS) care as a certified Emergency Medical Technician. Orient to the pre-hospital paramedic position while also performing advanced life support (ALS) skills under the direction of a Paramedic preceptor for educational purposes. All required documentation, treatment, and transfer of patient information must be completed while under the supervision of the preceptor.

Responsibilities:

  • Know and follow all organizational/departmental policies/procedures.
  • Assume responsibility for personal development and education.
  • Demonstrate competency in the assessment, range of treatment, and knowledge of growth and development appropriate to the age of the patient and the patient's condition while under the direct supervision of a paramedic preceptor.
  • Provide critical care interfacility transfers utilizing transport protocols and procedures to follow as an advanced care provider under the direct supervision of a paramedic preceptor.
  • Perform invasive techniques required for patient care needs in accordance with protocols or as ordered by a physician medical commander. ALS procedures are required to be observed by the preceptor.
  • Administer medications in the proper dose following the correct route and order from a physician medical commander or the appropriate protocol while under the direction of a preceptor.
  • Perform documentation and the required skill of transferring patient information verbally as on written records.
  • Following the successful completion of the department driver orientation and road test, operate emergency vehicles under routine and emergency conditions in a safe, controlled manner.
  • Following established protocols under the direct supervision of a paramedic supervisor.
  • Perform vehicle and equipment inspections, notifying the supervisor of damaged or defective equipment, and maintaining records and checklists as required.
  • Assist in lifting and moving patients and carrying them to the ambulance for transport and then transport to a medical facility.
  • Complete the educational assignments, and system and department orientation, learn streets and roadways appropriate for the most timely response to emergency calls, and become familiar with system/department policies and procedures.
  • Perform patient assessment and patient care at the basic life support level for patients of all age groups, including the initiation of prehospital care in accordance with established standards or policies for patients suffering from traumatic injuries or medical emergencies.

 

 

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Enrolled in AMA/CAAHEP accredited paramedic training program.

Currently participating in the field internship portion required to satisfy the National Registry Paramedic testing prerequisites.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Valid State Drivers License required. BCLS Provider Certification required. Emergency Vehicle Operators Course Certification required within 90 days of hire. National Registry Paramedic (NRP) required within 90 days of course completion.
