Description
Purpose:
The Sterilizer Repair Technician Apprentice (SRTA) is a direct mentored trainee that performs repairs, inspections, installations, and preventive maintenance on infection prevention equipment used throughout the UPMC Health System and its affiliates as well as physician offices other institutions and other BioTronics Inc clients. This position works under the direct supervision of Sterilizer Repair Technicians who will train the Sterilizer Repair Apprentice in the proper methods of inspection and repair of multi-vendor infection prevention equipment and ancillary devices. Once sufficiently trained and validated on competency, the technician will be expected to accomplish multiple assigned tasks and goals independently.
Responsibilities:
- Learn specific regulatory requirements related to infection prevention. Travel between UPMC sites, hospital affiliates, and institutions for services and training with BioTronics Inc may be required. Use of personal vehicle may be required.
- Learn to perform preventive maintenance, inspection, installation, and repair of infection prevention equipment to include Medium, High, and Specialty groups.
- Familiar with basic hand tools and proper use while learning specialized tools used in all infection prevention specialties.
- Learn, understand and follow all repair guidelines to manufacturer specifications. Maintain records of all work activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (ITS) and Kronos system.
- Priority Class 'Medium' Equipment includes but is not limited to: video equipment, OR tables, OR lights and sonic generators Priority Class 'High' Equipment includes but is not limited to: scope sterilizers, washer decontaminators, cart washers Priority Class 'Specialty' Equipment includes but is not limited to: sterilizers (steam and ETO), gas plasma sterilizers, tunnel washers, system installations and relocations.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Experienced Central Services (CS) or Surgical Processing Department (SPD) Technicians with good dexterity hand eye coordination, interested in learning repairs are preferred but not required.
- Experience in electronics and/or electromechanical devices is preferred but not required.
- Experience in plumbing and/or HVAC is preferred but not required.
- Basic computer skills as required to operate a Computerized Maintenance Management System and common office software including but not limited to MS Office.
- May in the course of duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with the medication is allowed.
- Ability to follow directions and communicate effectively.
- Familiarity with schematics and service manuals preferred.
