The Matilda H. Theiss Child Development Center is the cornerstone of early childhood mental health services at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital. For over 30 years, Matilda Theiss has supported person-centered, family-focused, positive approaches — as well as individualized models of care — across a continuum of services.
The Mental Health Worker Associate will provide behavioral health interventions for children with trauma ages 6 weeks-6 years, in a therapeutic classroom milieu. This position offers the opportunity to work closely and actively with colleagues in a team environment.
The ideal candidate will have some level of prior experience working in an early childhood and/or trauma setting. The dress code for this position is business casual and child friendly. Leas parking options are available. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday daylight hours, either 730a-4p, or 8a-430p.
Responsibilities:
- In cooperation with the team, develop, assess, facilitate and monitor group activities for the patients.
- Monitor daily progress notes, data collection, summarization, and graphing for assigned patients. This includes but is not limited to educational, behavioral and skills development programs as well as research protocols.
- Work effectively and cooperatively in a trans-disciplinary environment, served by the supervision of several senior staff.
- Participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of behavioral and functional assessments of the patients.
- Promote professional rapport with co-workers, patients, and visitors to the Institute.
- Coordinate the data management involved in program evaluation and report these findings to other clinical community members.
- Assess and monitor skills development programming (cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, expressive, social skills, process) for the patients.
- Assist in monitoring patient satisfaction (teachers, parents, child, outside agency)
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in psychology, social work, counseling and education or related field.
- A minimum of One year of experience in mental health or related field is preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CCM training is required within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
- National Sex Offender Registry with renewal
