Description
Purpose:
Under supervision, maintain the hospital's refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation, and other mechanical systems in a clean, repaired and running condition for an efficient operation.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for setting-up appropriate level of infection control containment (ICRA) based on risk level and maintaining the integrity of that containment.
- Demonstrate knowledge of all components of refrigeration system and assist journeyman in troubleshooting equipment
- Perform all work following infection control procedures.
- Under supervision of a journeyman technician, check all mechanical equipment for efficient, safe operation.
- Under supervision, add proper chemicals to the desired requirements.
- Maintain clean and safe work area, equipment rooms and shop area.
- Under supervision, check water supply for chemical treatment levels.
- Interpret all information gathered from blueprints, instruction books and sketches, to maintain all mechanical equipment in efficient, safe working order.
- Oil and grease all parts of equipment.
- Operate the refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation equipment in a safe manner.
- Under supervision of a journeyman technician, check meters, gauges, signal lights and other warning devices for possible problems and make necessary corrections.
- Under supervision of an engineer or refrigeration staff, inspect all air conditioning, refrigeration, and ventilation equipment to identify possible deficiencies and/or malfunctions.
- Adheres to the Basics of Service Excellence in all interactions with clients and the public.
- Record personal work orders and submit hours on a daily basis.
- Under supervision, inspect mechanical devices and make any necessary repairs or corrections.
- Under supervision of a journeyman electrician or engineer, inspect electrical wiring and electrical devices and make necessary repairs and corrections.
- Order material necessary for any job.
- Collect data sheets and charts for leadman and manager.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent and successful completion of an accredited HVAC technical school or equivalent is required.
- Successful completion of selected apprentice classes through an approved educational program during the apprenticeship program duration is mandatory.
- Must possess the ability to respond to a variety of situations in difficult positions by the use of ladders, catwalks, crawl spaces, etc.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Must successfully obtain and keep active a City of Pittsburgh stationary engineer's license within forty-eight months from the date of hire into the apprentice position. Must possess current driver's license.
