Description
UPMC Health Plan and Workpartners are looking for an Integrated Analytics Engineer to create high-quality programming, data infrastructure, data architecture development, visualization projects, and other technical processes to integrate data elements from disparate sources throughout the UPMC enterprise. The engineer will also help identify and monitor health and absence risks in populations and evaluate the impact of implementing integrated health and productivity solutions. As a support for business line leaders, the engineer will demonstrate the ability to deconstruct existing business processes and data repositories and make specific recommendations for operational and structural improvements. Under the direction of more senior staff, the engineer will collaborate with teams across the organization to identify recommendations that improve UPMC operations and controls, specifically in the areas of data governance. Responsibilities:
- Department Goals: Successfully manages many competing demands and can monitor that individual work is delivered on time and within budgeted hours. Enhance the culture through the execution of analytics. Meets departmental goals for productivity and is proactive in searching out additional tasks and projects during downtimes.
- Leadership: Occasionally assists on departmental and organizational special projects. Is building core skills in public speaking / presentation skills and occasionally leads internal meetings. Is developing their 'personal brand' by fostering relationships with key subject matter experts outside of the department who are central to furthering analytics initiatives (i.e., data warehouse teams, information security, data governance, etc.).
- Risks & Industry: Is developing an understanding of risk & control concepts and skills in data and business process analysis to propose relevant data analyses and visualizations. Developing intermediate knowledge of IT, healthcare, and statistical terminology/concepts as well as common industry risks. Belongs to industry and / or discipline professional organizations.
- Technology: Possesses basic knowledge of data querying, cleansing, validation, analysis, and visualization techniques, and is developing basic knowledge of statistical modeling and other advanced analytics tools (e.g., machine learning) to explore and mine data. Is developing proficiency in at least one relevant programming language (ACL, Python, R, SAS, SQL, etc.) and/or Visualization tool (Power BI, Tableau, etc.). Is developing an understanding of software development techniques and systems to support quickly learning and implementing new technical tools or solutions. Is building consistency in writing code and preparing visualizations in conformance with departmental standards and industry best practices. Possesses aptitude to independently research effective solutions to technical problems. Is developing a working knowledge in extracting and combining data from a variety of data warehouses, reporting tools, and systems in use at UPMC. Assists with maintaining and improving departmental scripts, automated tasks, and risk monitoring metrics. Is developing a network of colleagues and peers within the department and/or within relevant industry organizations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Data Science, Business Analytics, Engineering, or other STEM related degree
- Or bachelor's degree in an unrelated field and either: a related master's degree, or a preferred certification
- 2 years related experience required
- Proficient SQL skills required Knowledge of data integration/ETL software such as SSIS, Azure Data Factory, or Informatica preferred
- Knowledge of data visualization software such as SSRS, Power BI, or Tableau preferred
- Candidates with subject matter experience in data/business analytics, data architecture, data warehousing, software development, statistics/actuarial, business intelligence, information technology/information security, or auditing are preferred
- Familiarity with data architecture and systems engineering best practices is a plus
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure DevOps a plus
- High degree of professionalism, enthusiasm, autonomy, and initiative
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail is critical to the success of this position
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, and forge strong interpersonal relationships within the department, with other departments, and with external audiences
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Certification Preferences: CISA, CISSP, CFE, CIA, CPA, CHC, CCEP, Six Sigma, ACDA, DASCA Certified, or other data analytics/visualization certification.Licensure/Certification: Certification is preferred.
