To obtain all the competencies required to become a medical dosimetrist

  • Attend and successfully complete the Medical Dosimetrists training program
  • Attend didactic lectures and achieve a passing grade
  • Keeps current on the new treatment planning techniques, devices, and methods
  • Locates radioactive source positions in localization films and calculates the dose distributions in brachytherapy.
  • Operation of external beam therapy equipment
  • Operation of high dose rate brachytherapy equipment
  • Operation of low dose rate brachytherapy equipment
  • Perform quality assurance of radiation therapy equipment
  • Performs Quality Assurance procedures on computers used for daily patient dose calculations.
  • Performs intra cavitary and interstitial sealed source implant procedures and in the subsequent manual and/or computer calculation of the dose distributions of these procedures.
  • Under the guidance of instruction, performs billing process
  • Under the guidance of instructor, performs data entering to record and verification system
  • Use of treatment planning system
  • Works on the computer to calculate the source dwelling times for high dose-rate afterloading applicator


  • Bachelors Degree At least one year work experience as a Radiation Therapist

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    Registered through ARRT in radiation therapy

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • American Registered Radiologic Technologists
