UPMC Northwest and UPMC Hamot regional EMS initiatives for coordination of UPMC Prehospital Care educational programs.


  • Assist with development of response plans for special event coverage.
  • Coordinate the PA Department of Health accreditation of assigned UPMC hospital as a Medical Command Facility.
  • Develop and execute action plans for those providers and systems that are identified through the quality improvement process.
  • Develop, coordinate, and instruct continuing medical education programs for EMS providers.
  • Establish and maintain effective professional relationships with local government officials. EMS agencies, civil emergency services, County, Regional and State agencies along with other health care facilities.
  • Formalize agreements/contracts with EMS agencies and transportation system in region assigned.
  • Manage continuous quality improvement program development for medical command services.
  • Organize, plan, and implement EMS recognition events.
  • Organize, plan, perform, and manage community health events as assigned. Implement medical command authorization process and standardized treatment guidelines for use by EMS Pre-hospital providers.
  • Provide expertise to hospital disaster committee, and other committees as required.
  • Recruit, coordinate, and manage special event medical coverage assigned.
  • Supports Emergency Services Administration Team for activities relates to EMS and Pre-Hospital Care.


  • Associates Degree in Public Safety, Paramedicine or related field required. Bachelors Degree in Public Safety, Paramedicine or related field preferred.
  • Three years of experience in EMS required.
  • Prefer critical care certification preferred.
  • Instructor experience preferred.
  • Experience with supervision of medical coverage for mass gathering events required. Experience with EMS quality improvement programs required. Previous experience in public speaking required. Knowledge of Local, State and Federal EMS regulations required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite required. Experience in the development of clinical EMS protocols, policies and procedures experience preferred. Experience in the Coordination and implementation of research programs pertaining to EMS preferred. Familiarity with EMS Billing preferred. Experience in the development and coordination of Community Health events experience preferred. Experience in Emergency Management preferred.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds to a height of 4 feet without assistance required.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    Certification as a CCEMT-P preferred. Preferred Instructor certification(s) in: ITLS (International Trauma Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support), and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Older Adult Protective Services Act
  • Paramedic or Pre-hospital Physician Assistant or Pre-hospital Registered Nurse
