Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic is hiring a Part-Time Psychiatric Nurse to help support the Long Term Care Department for its Oakland location.   This position will work Monday through Friday daylight.

The Psychiatric Nurse is responsible for demonstrating clinical competence in the delivery of direct patient care and the implementation of the milieu management program.

  • Acts as liaison between disciplines, departments, and hospitals for assigned patients Participates in interdisciplinary meetings and other activities Maintains professional communication with multidisciplinary team members Able to interface with various members of multidisciplinary team members to coordinate all aspects of patient care.
  • Coordinates daily care for assigned team Assesses client from holistic perspective. Have knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses and be able to differentiate diagnosis on assigned patients. Rounds daily on team of assigned patients and/or discuss patients with treatment team
  • Coordinates patient follow-up discharge plans and medical plans with Social Work and Primary Medicine respectively. Monitors psychiatric, medical, psychosocial status of assigned team. Actively participates in treatment team meetings. Provides patient/family education around psychiatric medication/diagnosis as needed. Initiates or reviews admission paperwork of all assigned patients Completes documentation according to established policies and in timely fashion
  • Maintain competency requirements Attend a minimum of 2 unit based inservices yearly Attend a minimum of 6 educational meetings offered within Institute or Outside Program Utilize up to date practices/information in delivery of patient care Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Role Models professional practice and provides mentorship/preceptorship for clinicians. Oversights Nurse Clinicians and Nurse Clinical Specialist for practice compliance Responsible/leads monthly Nurse Clinician meeting. Coordinates and Develops the Nurse Clinician education annual series based on Learning needs of group.
  • Maintains/follows meeting minutes and educational binder for clinicians. Leads key initiatives for Clinicians and represents Clinicians in meetings as assigned. Provides education and consultation regarding psychiatric treatment, management, and psychopharmacology for staff Coordinates and facilitates with MD and treatment team direct admissions and DEC admissions as assigned
  • Participates in on-going review and development and provision of Group Programming for the unit Leads routine therapeutic patient groups Has good organizational skills that leads to effective time management.


  • Masters degree in Nursing .
  •  Minimum of three years relevant behavioral health experience.
  • Two years Advance Practice Clinician .

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    ANCC certification as CNS or ANP PA RN License required CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

    CCM training is required within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter
