Pulmonary Consultants is seeking an Nocturnist to join their full-time, hospital-based, adult critical care practice located at UPMC St. Margaret.  We are a leader in providing critical care services in the greater Pittsburgh area. Physicians lead a multidisciplinary team that provides integral and collaborative care for medical and general surgical patients.


What would I be responsible for/expect in this position?

  • Fully employed nocturnist
  • Coverage of a 14-bed, ICU medical/surgical and critical care services
  • Diagnose and treat conditions acute medical conditions, including airway management, and respiratory oversight
  • Provide formal consultation and evaluation
  • Daily diagnosis and treatment for:  Respiratory conditions, acute medical conditions, acute respiratory failure requiring intubation and ventilator management, multi system organ failure (respiratory, cardiac, neuro, and renal), endocrine emergencies and management such as DKA, neurological emergencies such as status epilepticus, CVA,  post op neurosurgery management, various types of shock (hypovolemic, cardiogenic and septic), post-op complications (PE, DVT, infection, sepsis, HCAP, and aspiration pneumonia)
  • Adept at performing central venous line insertion, insertion of arterial lines, intubation and ventilator management
  • Mentor staff including residents
  • Regular – Full Time status
  • Opportunities for additional moonlighting shifts separate from the nocturnist schedule
  • Hours:  7 p.m. to 7 a.m., working in a seven-day-on and seven-day-off block schedule (could also have a flexible schedule)
  • Location:  UPMC St. Margaret, 200 Delafield Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15215


What would qualify me for the position?

  • Graduate of accredited medical school
  • MD/DO Licensure required
  • Critical Care board eligible/certified required
  • Dual Board certification in Pulmonary and Critical Care preferred
  • Licensed to practice medicine in Pennsylvania
