Description

Dr. Birmaher’s research lab is a busy and dynamic area currently conducting multiple federally research studies. All staff work together to meet UPMC’s, NIMH’s and the department’s goals and missions. Additionally, BIOS team members work autonomously, completing all aspects of the research interview and data collection process, upon the completion of orientation.

The primary job responsibilities includes conducting research assessments with study participants ranging in age from 8-60yo, conducting most interviews in the field, proficiently completing all data related to the study, presenting all cases to a psychiatrist and submitting all related data in a timely fashion.

The ideal candidate will have experience conducting semi-structured interviews, including KSADS and/or SCID, along with experience working with children and adolescents.

This position is grant funded. 

Purpose:

Independently execute job functions for research protocol(s). Collect and gather research data for research project.

Responsibilities:
  • -Ability to complete duties effectively in a timely fashion with a high degree of accuracy.
  • -Perform in accordance with systemwide competencies/behaviors. -Performs other duties as assigned.
  • -Work independently and in a team structure to effectively prioritize and complete tasks.
  • Ability to contact subjects, through various methods, who are hard to reach due change of address or telephone number.
  • Ability to respond to work requests as designated by supervisors.
  • Able to interview study subjects in an office setting or in subject's homes.
  • Achieve a high rate of success in contact and completion of interviews.
  • Assist Clinical Research Manager and other relevant staff in all levels and phases of research project.
  • Attend weekly meetings with Clinical Research Manager and update supervisor regarding study progress and problems.
  • Collaborate with senior research personnel regarding recruitment, data collection, outcomes of interviews, reports according to the needs of the study.
  • Contact subjects and schedule follow-up interviews.
  • Contact subjects to confirm appointments.
  • Contribute to implementation of computerized subject tracking systems.
  • Ensure that all interviews, assessments, documentation are of the highest quality and legibility, and are completed in a timely fashion with no greater than five outstanding cases at any given time.
  • Independently execute job functions for research protocol(s) including recruitment, scheduling appointments, obtaining written consent forms, collecting data by conducting phone or face to face interviews for research project(s).
  • Maintain a professional and respectful manner with colleagues, supervisors and study participants.
  • Maintain flexibility in schedule to meet research deadlines.
  • Must be able to maintain a flexible schedule, conducting one to three research interviews per week, primarily, in people's homes.
  • Other duties as designated by Clinical Research Manager and Principal Investigator.
  • Oversee the recruitment and retention of subjects using informed consent procedures.
  • Record for test-retest reliability required to maintain diagnostic consistency at 80% agreement.
  • Responsible for prompt identification for possible interventions based on research assessment results.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree required, preferably in psychology, neuroscience, sociology or related research field. Minimum of one year of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting is required. Familiarity with comptuers and common software packages required. Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
