UPMC is excited to be hiring a full-time, daylight Andrology Specialist to help support The Magee Center for Fertility and Reproductive Endocrinology – North! This position is located at the Womancare Center of UPMC Horizon.

In this exciting opportunity, you would be working Monday-Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.! There are no weekend or holiday responsibilities!

In this role you would manage the day-to-day functions of the andrology and immunoassay laboratories. Communicates with the laboratory director with respect to the andrology and immunoassay laboratories.


  • Coordinate male surgical procedures with urologist that need to be cryopreserved for in-vitro fertilization.
  • Ensure receipt, preparation, and documentation of blood received for endocrine assays from all sites.
  • Maintain adequate inventory supply for andrology and immunoassay laboratories.
  • Make decisions as to any additional testing that may be needed to help physician accurately determine diagnosis and course of treatment.
  • Make modifications to accommodate sample variations and/or deficiencies.
  • Participate in research and/or studies that are conducted that involve andrology and/or immunoassays.
  • Perform anti-sperm antibody testing.
  • Perform routine semen analysis including count, motility, and morphology.
  • Prepare and maintain all reagents for both andrology and immunoassay laboratories.
  • Prepare frozen donor sperm for insemination.
  • Prepare sperm for insemination of in-vitro fertilization patients.
  • Prepare sperm.
  • Record all daily quality control and quality assurance checks and reports to the laboratory director with regards to any problems.
  • Record and distribute all results in a timely manner to referring physician for andrology and immunoassay laboratories.
  • Remain abreast of developments in the science of andrology and in-vitro fertilization.
  • Report to embryologist as to whether specimen is adequate for in-vitro fertilization.
  • Report to nurse and/or physician as to problems involving adequate specimen for insemination.
  • Report to urologist about findings and recommend whether specimen is adequate for cryopreservation.
  • Run all immunoassays on a daily basis and ensure that all quality control ranges are adhered to before reporting results.


  • Bachelors degree in basic science such as biology, chemistry or biochemistry required. 
  • 1year of experience in clinical research or in a hospital laboratory required.
  • Previous Andrology experience preferred.

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
