The Contract Administrator is responsible for overseeing contract management activities for the Health Plan.  This role supports the critical contracting function of the Health Plan Legal department and the maintenance of legal contracts for all Health Plan business units.  The Contract Administrator also provides research and support for the resolution of complex legal issues or questions in which contract documents, terms, or legal and regulatory standards may be implicated.

  • As requested by key UPMC-HP management staff, work on reports to senior administration.
  • Coordinate the development and maintenance of contract management policies and procedures with all stakeholders.
  • Engage Finance, Audit, Consumerism, and Corporate Procurement in vendor review process.
  • Ensure adherence and ongoing operation of documented performance guarantee management.
  • Interface with Legal and contract owners to verify contracts are appropriately managed and tracked within the contract management application.
  • Interpret contracts and capture appropriate data elements.
  • Monitor and report on the gaps in contract administration and make recommendations to streamline systems and processes within the department.
  • Oversee contract renewal process to ensure that contracts are appropriately updated within the application.
  • Perform legal research for UPMC attorneys. Obtain legal documents and information from governmental agencies as required on behalf of UPMC hospitals and entities.
  • Prepare and respond to third-party subpoenas seeking protected health information on an as needed basis.
  • Prepare and respond to third-party subpoenas, discovery requests, court orders, and other requests seeking medical, personnel, and payroll and business records.
  • Provide assistance to the attorneys within the Corporate Legal Department for necessary and appropriate legal research.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all contracts within the Health Plan.
  • Verify that contract information and signed copies of contracts are captured by the database and accessible by Legal staff.


  • Juris Doctorate Or paralegal certificate and five years of paralegal experience in a mid-size law firm or corporate legal group required. 
  • Must have the ability to problem solve and make decisions independently within agreed parameters of attorney supervision and consistent with professional rules of responsibility for the attorney practice of law.  
  • Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills. 
  • Computer operating mandatory with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Westlaw, Pacer. 
  • Working knowledge of contracting, regulations in healthcare and general legal principles related to contracts.
  • Knowledge of Managed Care is a plus.

Salary Range: $21.94 to $37.97
