Purpose:
Administratively responsible for the management of the Nursing Administration Department on her/his tour of duty. Assists in the direction and coordination of nursing administration and related activities throughout the Hospital; is responsible for maintaining continuity and quality of patient care. In the absence of Hospital Administrative personnel, acts as their delegate.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the Nursing Administrative Directors to support continuity of the divisional concept and philosophy to include: utilization of the nursing process to assure quality patient care. Investigates unexpected events and assures that completed reports are appropriately documented and processed.
  • Assists in the direction, organization, and coordination of Nursing Administration and related activities through-out the Hospital; maintains general supervision of nursing care and other activities within the nursing units.
  • Complies with established occupational exposure policies. Makes appropriate referrals, according to established protocols, of all employee illnesses and injuries during the hours when HealthForce is closed. Assures compliance to requirements set by governing agencies.
  • Consistently uses Hospital, Nursing, and Medical Staff policies, regulations, and guidelines in decision making. Evaluate daily staffing levels; plans and provides for the necessary personnel in cooperation with management team or designate.
  • Demonstrates appropriate use of corrective action relative to personnel performance. Supports an environment conducive to job satisfaction as a facilitator for recruitment and retention of nursing staff.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in allocation of resources. Participates in the development of policies and procedures relative to the operation of the UPMC Altoona Hospital complies with Universal Precautions.
  • Handles emergency and/or unusual situations and determines the course of action in accordance with Hospital Policy. Demonstrates responsiveness for the safety needs and well being of all customers. Supports a patient-focused environment.
  • Maintains quality patient care by directing the allocation of professional nursing and auxiliary personnel. Serves as resource person by advising and/or assisting nursing personnel with new and unusual treatments, procedures, or problems.

Qualifications

  • Must meet the Hospitals requirements as to general qualifications and in addition, must hold a valid registration as a registered nurse in the State of Pennsylvania
  •  BSN/BA degree required.
  • Experience Required - fours years experience in nursing.
  • Critical Care Experience preferred

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • Registered Nurse
