UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at UPMC Passavant - McCandless, is looking for a Patient Service Coordinator! This position will require travel/floating to other Cancer Center locations including Cranberry and Butler; travel will be frequent!  Hours will primarily be Monday - Friday, from 8:00am - 4:30pm.  No weekends!



This position will be responsible for all Medical Assistant/clinical duties, as well as front-office duties.  3 years or more of direct patient care experience is required!  Previous Medical Assistant experience and education is highly preferred!  Experience within a medical office setting and Phlebotomy experience is highly preferred as well!  




The Patient Service Coordinator is responsible for managing the clinic and providing outstanding customer service to all patients and families.


  • Acts as a Medical Assistant in an office setting, performing both clinical and front-office duties.
  • Collects 100% of copays daily and correctly balances at the end of each day. Assists in the registration of patients to include verification and confirmation of health insurance coverage.
  • Organizes daily schedule of patients, greet patients and assigns rooms.
  • Completes vital signs, specimen testing and Phlebotomy as needed.
  • Coordinates scheduling to include testing. Coordinates the ordering of blood products in collaboration with RNs, Blood Bank and Laboratory.
  • Continuously monitors environment and facilitates correction of any detraction from the appearance, comfort and safety of the clinic. Immediately report any situation that may impact safety of patients, visitors and staff. Account for all customers in the clinic.
  • Coordinates and manages the bone marrow biopsy schedule for multiple practitioners and bone marrow technician.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary activities such as staff meetings and other committees as assigned. Orders supplies for unit as necessary.
  • Greets each person entering the clinic, identifies self and role. Explains processes and procedures to new patients and assists with paperwork.
  • Anticipates and responds to meet customer needs. Serve as liaison between customer and clinic staff.
  • Maintain high visibility. Stationed in a prominent area in the clinic that is readily identifiable and accessible to customer. Respond appropriately to crisis situation as a team member.
  • Provides front desk coverage and front-office duties as assigned.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary activities such as staff meetings and other committees as assigned. Provides lobby/waiting room coordination and supervision.
  • Maintains competency requirements. Other Duties as Assigned.


  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three years of direct patient care and or phlebotomy experience.
  • Medical Assistant and Medical Office experience highly preferred.
  • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with individuals from multi-disciplinary groups.
  • Possesses excellent organizational skills.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy licensure preferred CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
