Purpose:
This position is responsible for the administrative and financial management of grants and contracts awarded to WPIC Department of Psychiatry principal investigators (PI).

Responsibilities:
  • Budget monitoring of grants.
  • Direct daily contact and interaction with PI and research staff, various PITT/UPMC staff and departments, and other Office of Grants and Contracts team members.
  • Expenditure approval, recording, and monitoring on grants.
  • Monthly reconciliation of University of Pittsburgh General Ledgers to the Department's Financial Software system.
  • Prepare the financial closing of ended grants and calculate trailing cost.
  • Produce monthly financial reports by grant with projections of expenses compared to budget.
  • Remain current and knowledgeable on agency, University, and UPMC procedures and requirements concerning grants management issues.
  • Research and correct financial and operating problems.
  • Responsible for accurately reviewing financial implications of documents issued by the OGC across multiple business units.
  • Responsible for initiating Project Initiation Meetings' with new Principal Investigator's to review details related to new grants.
  • Review NGA's, Pitt Levels, Expense Reports, contracts, and other financial documents for discrepancies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree (preferably in Accounting, Finance or related field).
  • One year of experience working with grants management in an academic setting or experience working in finance, accounting, or budget management.
  • Prior experience preparing financial reports, reconciliations, and preparing journal entries.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment to resolve complex problems.
  • Capable to work autonomously but within a team environment.
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word. Preferences: Financial management experience. Knowledge of policies and regulations governing federal funding and compliance issues. Analytical and problem solving skills. Strong organization, interpersonal, and communication skills. Experience working in a complex regulatory environment.
