Job Summary:

University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a Patient Information Coordinator to support the Women's Health department during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday. The position is located at UPMC Hamot, and travel to the other Women's Health locations is required as needed. 

The Patient Information Coordinator is responsible for collecting patient's personal and insurance information, processing co-payments, answering phones and directing calls, scheduling patient appointments, and much more. We are seeking candidates with a strong customer service background and a desire to ensure a positive experience during a patient's visit to UPMC.

Responsibilities:

  • Collects and records patient payment including coinsurance, co-payment and deductibles at the time of service.
  • Confirm/verifies insurance benefits with the appropriate carrier via on-line verification systems or telephone inquiries.
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate and efficiently utilize all systems and office equipment.
  • Generate and complete all applicable forms and necessary communications while obtaining signature for consent to treatment and financial responsibility following the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules and regulations.
  • Interview and register patients at the time of or prior to the visit date. Obtain and update demographic, emergency contact and insurance information, including referrals/authorizations on all patients as needed.
  • Schedules appointments based on business unit requirements.

Qualifications

  • Completion of High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in a medical office with scheduling experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience using Epic is preferred. 
  • Experience with personal computer based applications, other various office equipment and proficient typing skills. 
  • 2 years experience in a medical/billing/fiscal or customer service function preferred. 
  • Medical terminology and third party health care coverage experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required. 
  • Initiative to work productively with minimal supervision. Able to work well under pressure.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
