The responsibilities of the Product Manager, Marketing and Communications of Member Benefits and Operations will manage the creation, review, and fulfillment of all health plan legal documents.  These documents include, but are not limited to, system generated letter, EOBs, UPMC Health Plan documents (i.e., COT, SOB, ROC, riders, etc), ACA-related communications (i.e., 1095Bs, Rate Increase Notices, etc.), regulatory compliance notices (i.e. HIPAA forms, privacy statements, etc.), and TPA client plan documents.  The Product Manager, Marketing and Communications of Member Benefits and Operations will also be responsible for managing two team employees.  

This role will manage and implement new products and programs. Coordinate and file new products with the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance and coordinate and file product variations with the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance. Educate and train key department personnel impacted by new products and programs. Initiate group-specific product programs and interfacing with program organizers throughout the UPMC Health System.

  • Accountable for performing miscellaneous assignments delegated by Product Management & Development, Manager.
  • Analyze and manage a select product portfolio as assigned by the Manager of Product Management & Development.
  • Attend continuous education classes to increase knowledge in the health care industry.
  • Communicate all programs to Marketing Staff to ensure programs are understood and marketed to potential and current members.
  • Communicate effectively all issues that impact daily and ongoing operations.
  • Consistently strive to ensure product regulatory compliance with all products.
  • Coordinate cost benefit analysis on proposed initiatives.
  • Coordinate product filings with the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance.
  • Evaluate the impact new Federal and States mandates have on new and existing products.
  • Input on group contract write-ups and initiatives.
  • Participate on committees that impact/pertain to product development.
  • Perform analysis and report on product financials, product costs trends, and key performance indicators.
  • Research, analyze, and report on competitive information and the changing marketplace.
  • Submit weekly report to Product Management & Development, Manager that outlines all activities and meetings.
  • Train and educate key departmental personnel impacted by the new products and programs.
  • Work with different functional areas within Health Plan to create, implement and monitor new products and programs.


  • B.S. degree required. 
  • Three years of experience in insurance or medical environment, or relevant product management experience.
  • Regulatory and product filing or equivalent experience.
  • Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office including: Outlook, Word, Excel and Access as well as Internet Explorer. 
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently. 
  • Ability to work with various levels of staff throughout the corporation. 
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to supervise and direct projects as needed. 
  • Team player.
  • Previous health insurance experience is preferred.
  • Experience in dealing with health plan legal documents is preferred.
  • Previous experience in implementing process automation is preferred.
  • Previous management experience is preferred.

Salary Range: $28.37 to $47.88
