Job Title: Clinician - 5 Main - Oncology
Job ID: 648145
Status: Full-Time
Regular/Temporary: Regular
Shift: Day Job
Facility: UPMC Shadyside
Department: 5 Main
Location: 5230 Centre Avenue, Pittsburgh PA 15232

For the experienced nurse who wishes to broadly impact patient care and clinical practice as a leader and change agent, the Clinician role is an ideal step forward. Shadyside Hospital is currently hiring a Regular Full-Time Clinician for the 5 Main Unit.

5 Main is 29-bed unit that specializes in caring for oncology patients with solid tumors, lymphoma, and hematologic disorders. The unit sees a broad spectrum of patients, from new diagnoses to patients transitioning into hospice and end-of-life care.  Additionally, 5 Main staff have the opportunity to learn and grow with the field of oncology as they care for patients on immunotherapy clinical trials.  Nurses on this unit take an active role in providing education, care, and support for the patients and families who are confronting these new challenges.  Nurses work directly with the interdisciplinary team to ensure a smooth treatment course and discharge, as well as, transitions to home and hospice care. Nurses will also be responsible for administering chemotherapy.

Clinicians work in collaboration with their Unit Director, management, and other caregivers to coordinate clinical activities for each shift, develop and educate staff on the unit, and improve the nursing process. Clinicians inspire superior performance on their unit through example, not only by exhibiting their own expertise in patient care assignments, but also by providing ongoing consultation and education for their team, including in-service demonstrations of new devices, equipment, and policy changes.

As Clinician, you will be a positive force on the unit, a relationship builder who promotes open communication amongst caregivers and forges connections between colleagues, patients, and patients’ families. You will also directly contribute to a culture of nursing excellence by participating in the selection, training, development, and evaluation of our staff.

The Clinician is a valued step in the UPMC nursing career ladder, with opportunities for advancement and continued growth.
