This position supports the Senior Communities within UPMC and includes travel to the 10+ facilities that fall under the Senior Communities Skilled Nursing umbrella.

 

Typically Monday - Friday.

 

Purpose:
Under the direction of the Director, Clinical and Operational Informatics (DCOI), the Informatics Nurse has the responsibility and accountability of leading the investigation, development, and implementation of new technology as it relates to clinical practice and serving as a liaison between the clinical and the technical personnel. The Informatics Nurse works with project team members to ensure a successful implementation. He/she demonstrates knowledge of project management, methodology, organizational skills: possess strong group facilitation skills, provides direction and support for decision making; enables timely and effective communication skills among project team.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures physicians and CRNP/PAs are trained in the use of the systems, utilizing available resources.
  • Responsible for updating appropriate members of the implementation team as appropriate.
  • Reports results of data an analysis to appropriate departments.
  • Suggests and supports changes within the department/organization. Manage complex interactions between applications being implemented and various departments (disciplines) processes and workflow.
  • Monitor system performance, and report to IT when anomalies, errors, inaccuracies, or inefficiencies occur.
  • Make recommendations as needed.
  • Ensures that policies and procedures are developed and updated as necessary to coincide with the EMR usage.
  • Complies with safety policies and procedures including standard precautions.
  • Performs work in a timely and productive manner.
  • Meets deadlines as defined.
  • Participates in meetings as requested.
  • Role models professional communication strategies and holds peers accountable for similar behavior.
  • Coordinates collaboration between departments/facilities.
  • Identifies and communicates learning needs to appropriate manager.
  • Recognize symptoms of project problems and react quickly to solve them.
  • Make accurate recommendations that will inform purchasing decisions for new clinical systems and technologies that meet organizational standards.
  • Participate in development and testing of the application.
  • Provide departmental support in each phase of implementation.
  • Support the users and ongoing development of applications.
  • Identifies staff needs related to education and training in the areas of Vision skills and competencies.
  •  Ensures training materials are developed and maintained.
  • Takes action to improve knowledge, skills and performance based on feedback or on self-identified developmental needs.
  • Prior to performing new or challenging skills, requests assistance and reviews relevant policies and procedures.
  • Participates in self-review as requested by manager.
  • Utilizes the knowledge and skills of clinical practice to determine the clinical functions that are suitable for computer applications and to ensure the information systems are consistent with professional standards of clinical practice.
  • Demonstrates leadership, collaboration, critical thinking and timeliness in addressing decisions and resolving issues.
  • Facilitates visionary, out of the box thinking throughout workflow processes.
  • Manages the clinical issues and leads design teams as directed. Measures, monitors and participates in evaluations of Vision Team Members.
  • Develops and organizes educational training programs to ensure proficiency within clinical areas, that applications are utilized for maximum efficiency, and users are informed of new updates and revisions.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing for registered nurses.
  • Minimum Three years Acute and/or Long Term Care (LTC) experience required.
  • Experience with project management, program evaluation activities, including coaching staff, leading teams, developing work plans, developing communication, and implementing programs.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Demonstrate skills in the use of computer programs such as Excel, Power Point, Outlook and management of electronic e-mailing and filing. Strong interpersonal and verbal skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to travel to different facilities.
  • Out of town and/or overnight travel possible.
  • Travel: Position requires travel to various facilities, valid PA drivers license and proof of auto liability required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders both internal and external required.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule- off shifts and weekends may be required.
  • Knowledge of adult learning and training methods.
  • Customer Service oriented

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse or eligible for State Board Licensure.
  • Informatics certification required within 4 years of hire.
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
