University of Pittsburgh Physicians, Surgical Oncology, UPMC Shadyside is hiring a full-time PA or ACNP for the UPMC Shadyside site. The 10-hour night schedule, 2p-Midnight, is Monday through Friday with no on-call or weekend rotations. The role will primarily support in-house rounds with physicians. Site coverage will include UPMC Mercy.  Preferred inpatient, surgical patient population experience. Patient population (cancer) is very unique, caring for rare GI malignancies.

Provide patient care services, including assessing and managing patients in the outpatient and/or inpatient environment, by following established standards and practices. The successful candidate will be placed according to years and months of experience for employment purposes.

•Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).
•Educate patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommend community resources to meet patient and family needs.
•Interpret and integrate data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan.
•Make rounds at nursing homes and hospitals.
•Participate in activities that contribute to education and research, including precepting students.
•Perform complete physical exams, obtain complete medical history and record findings. Order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Document patient information and care provided in patient record and maintain statistics.
•Perform procedures as directed by physician and/or as directed by written agreement. Administer medications and injections in compliance with state law and clinic guidelines. Instruct patient/family regarding medications and treatments.
•Provide continuity of patient care in collaboration with other health care professionals.
•Triage patient telephone calls and provide consultation. Initiate or complete administrative tasks and acquire all necessary information, instructions, and materials as required.


Successful completion of an approved PA or ACNP accredited program is required. Preferred inpatient, surgical patient population experience. Patient population (cancer) is very unique, caring for rare GI malignancies.

This position is dependent upon successful attainment and maintenance of hospital privileges, if applicable to the Business Unit practice.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
National certification, eligible for licensure by Pennsylvania. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

•Act 34 Criminal Clearance
•Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
•Physician Assistant

•ACNP/RN, Acute Care NP Certification is required.
