UPMC Susquehanna is currently seeking a Registered Nurse to work as a RN - Risk Management Analyst!

One in this position assists the Director of Risk Management to protect the legal and financial well being of UPMC Susquehanna through various responsibilities that include risk identification systems, risk reduction strategy development and defense of medical malpractice litigation. The Risk Management Analyst works within the office and as a consultant on Risk Management activities through out UPMC Susquehanna facilities.

**This position does not require one to work any weekends or holidays**

  • Assists in the development of response to requests for discovery and pleadings regarding litigation pending against System entities.
  • Assists the Director of Risk Management in the coordination of claims activity with investigation and review of medical records and gathering of other pertinent documents and relevant information.
  • Assists the Director of Risk Management in the development and presentation of in-service education and orientation of new employees, physicians, residents and volunteers for relevant areas of risk management awareness.
  • Assists the Director of Risk management by providing updates through data entry of all SHSIN claims.
  • Assume responsibility for personal development and education.
  • Collaborates with outside legal counsel and UPMC Susquehanna staff to schedule litigation activities,and assists in the preparation of Susquehanna Health staff for depositions and other legal testimony
  • Coordinates the clinical risk management activities for UPMC Susquehanna to assure continued focus on safety, quality and risk reduction.
  • Develops and generates risk management reports and historical databases as assigned.
  • Develops and makes presentations as assigned regarding clinical risk management topics to large groups, senior management and medical staff.
  • Incorporate leading/evidence-based practice in quality/safety into every day work. Commit to high quality,safe work; encourage others to have similar standards. Identify processes/systems that could lead to inefficient practices, unsafe conditions, errors or adverse events. Avoid shortcuts to ensure quality and safety measures are not circumvented. Encourage patient and family involvement in processes involving patient safety. Speak up with other service partners to ensure high quality and safety. Report serious events/incidents per policy.
  • Know and follow all organizational/departmental policies/procedures.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the software applications utilized to support the operation of Susquehanna Health System Insurance Network, Ltd. (SHSIN).
  • Participates in hospital clinical and medical staff committees requiring risk management input as agreed upon by the Director of Risk Management and the Vice President of Legal Services.


  • Bachelors Nursing Preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with software applications RL6 Risk/Claims preferred.
  • Strong communication skills required.
  • Seven years experience as a Registered Nurse required. 
  • Experience as a clinical educator or manager preferred.
  • Experience with software applications RL6 Risk/Claims preferred.
  • Strong communication skills required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Registered Nurse licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Required Paralegal certification Preferred Certification in Healthcare Risk Management Preferred

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
  • Registered Nurse
