In this role you will focus on supporting web based applications and research in psychiatry. 

Under the general direction of the director of OAC and Senior administration, this lead position requires a high degree of experienced analytical and/or systems management capabilities, ability to perform and supervise tasks such as: defining requirements, developing and/or maintaining computer applications/systems, and providing services to meet client IT and business needs within budget and targeted deadlines. May be responsible for the supervision/direction of 8-10 project team members.

  • Assist and train staff in providing the WPIC research community as well as other departments with technical support.
  • Develop and maintain the WPIC Intranet web servers which provide secure and reliable web-based access to confidential documents and research databases.
  • Develop and manage the OAC Microsoft SQL/Server database server including the server, replication, nightly backup and desktop access.
  • Develop standards for desktop configurations beyond the basic ISD configuration.
  • Effectively respond to client requests, complaints, and queries, and routing ISD related issues to the UPMC help desk.
  • Establish Team assignments and allocate resources as needed to meet established objectives.
  • Function with the Director of OAC in developing new strategies for the incorporation of technology into the operation of the WPIC research community.
  • Maintain the integrity, security, and reliability of all the assigned computer systems and other related equipment on the OAC.
  • Manage the OAC help desk operations. Responsible for setting policy and maintaining the technical expertise of the department.
  • Plan enhancements to the shared hardware and software of the OAC.
  • Recruit and train OAC staff, supervise staff and conduct performance reviews as required by organization policies.
  • Supervise the LINUX servers and workstations used in Neuroimaging Center.
  • Supervise the UNIX workstations used for signal processing in the SCC.
  • Write system and application programs as needed and perform other related duties as assigned.


  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or related field and at least 5 years of experience in systems and network administration is required. 
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with windows server and workstation internals is necessary. 
  • Serves as lead resource for dealing with challenging technical issues related to the OAC computing environment. 
  • Experience in administration of a relational database system is highly desired. 
  • Training in Microsoft SQL/Server is necessary. 
  • Applies advanced knowledge in a primary discipline and working knowledge in multiple relevant disciplines to create solutions for complex technical situations 
  • Experience in scientific research would be most beneficial.
