Description

Purpose:
The Psychologist II (Oncology) will provide evaluation and treatment of patients with a variety of neurodevelopmental, behavior and/or mental health concerns. Provides diagnostic interviews/assessments with patients and/or families, conducts appropriate testing as needed, and provides feedback and recommendations to patients, families, and/ or community agencies/providers. May function as a sub-specialist within the unit or provide specialty services for other programs. Coordinates with care teams to plan behavioral health treatment across levels of care.

Responsibilities:
  • Assists in development and implementation of quality improvement measures and behavioral medicine research protocols.
  • Attends regular department meetings to discuss patients, treatment modalities, and current research on psychological care of cancer patients and their families.
  • Completes documentation of services on-time and follows department documentation guidelines. Is responsible for ensuring that each patient's chart is complete and stored in a manner consistent with policy.
  • Consults and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams regarding patient care and treatment planning.
  • Contributes to the development and/or implementation of educational seminars for health professionals, patients, and families.
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain accurate and complete records and data collection, performed in a timely fashion.
  • Demonstrates highly developed knowledge and skill in the area of differential diagnosis of psychiatric disorders.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant literature and empirically validated treatments.
  • Maintains knowledge of the literature relevant to the relevant patient population.
  • Networks with oncology offices and staff, community agencies, consumer groups and other health care professionals to promote department and its services.
  • Participates in regular supervisory meetings with direct supervisor to review adherence to program standards.
  • Performs psychological assessment with accurate diagnostic impressions.
  • Provides behavioral health services in using an acute and maintenance model.
  • Provides behavioral health services, using empirically validated treatments and interventions.
  • Provides crisis sessions to support and assist patients experiencing acute distress and/or symptoms, as needed.
  • Provides formal teaching and supervision for staff and trainees.
  • Schedules sufficient volume of patients so that direct service productivity standards are maintained within the department.
  • Works collaboratively with other service lines at UPMC and outside agencies assuring continuity of care with referral sources and other providers. May participate in research efforts by assisting in subject recruitment, conducting research assessments or treatment, as directed by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Psychology (PsyD or PhD) from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of experience in Psychology or related field.
  • Post-doctoral fellowship in position specific area (preferred).
  • Excellent clinical inter
  • viewing and assessment/therapy skills to work with patients and families. Strong interpersonal skills.

 

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Pennsylvania Psychologist license required

Salary Range: $30.89 to $52.76
