UPMC Susquehanna is actively searching for a full-time Director of Birthplace to support our Birthplace programs at UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport (17 beds) and UPMC Susquehanna Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital (Wellsboro - 10 beds). This position will be primarily based in Williamsport, with occasional travel to Wellsboro for site visits as needed. This highly visible nursing leadership role will report directly to the Director of Nursing for UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport.

The Director of Birthplace is accountable for around-the-clock operation of patient care within the full scope of the clinical platform including clinical and fiscal outcomes, as well as program growth. As Director, you will be the accountable leader for facilitating innovation in nursing and operational practices with a focus on patient safety, patient experience, and optimal clinical and operational efficiency. You will drive shared decision making, evidence based practice, research integration and journey of excellence.

Additionally, you will continue to build the clinical program across the continuum of care and prominently lead in a manner that exemplifies the Mission, Values and Philosophy of UPMC Susquehanna.

  • Across the Birthplace and Pediatric arena. facilitates communications within teams, including physician colleagues, to ensure quality, safety and the patient experience across the continuum.
  • Assures regulatory compliance and survey readiness.
  • Facilitates evidence based practice, research integration and journey of excellence.
  • Facilitates shared decision making across the clinical platform
  • Fosters an environment that supports nurses progression from novice to expert
  • Leads innovation and re-engineering across nursing and operational practices with a focus on patient safety, patient experience, and optimal clinical and operational efficiency.
  • Plans and executes strategies to achieve clinical, fiscal and program growth targets.
  • Plans and executes strategies to ensure exemplary operation of the clinical platform


  • Bachelors in Nursing required
  • Current UPMC employees must obtain a Masters degree in Nursing, Hospital Administration, Business Administration, Public Health or equivalent within 3 years of transfer.
  • External (non-UPMC) candidates must have a confirmed Masters degree at date of hire.
  • Doctoral degree in Nursing or Health related field preferred, but not required. 
  • 4 years of nursing experience with minimum 2 years in this specialty required. 
  • 2 years leadership/management experience required.

Salary Range: $43.15 to $64.73 / hour
