UPMC Community Medicine is currently hiring for a regular Full Time Healthy Beginnings Coordinator (RN) to work with our Lawrenceville Family Health Center located in Lawrenceville/Pittsburgh, PA.  This position will float to the other sites as needed in Bloomfield and New Kensington, PA.

The Health Center is a residency training program similar to a family practice and works with all age populations.

This position will work Monday through Friday daylight hours and have a primary responsibility with Women's Health in an OB/GYN patient setting.

The Healthy Beginnings Coordinator identifies potential risks/problems and coordinates follow-up care for the obstetrical patients. Participates in patient and family education. Works cooperatively with physicians and all other disciplines. Acts as a liaison contact for residents and faculty.

  • Act as a liaison between delivering hospital and the OB patient by providing and maintaining records and telephone triage to the hospital, the answering service, and the physicians.
  • Arrange for transportation to appointments and to the hospital, if necessary.
  • Assemble and record problems and follow-up actions on the Comprehensive Problem List in the client's prenatal record.
  • Complete WIC Certification Data on each client.
  • Discuss with the client the risks/problems identified by other health care staff and follow-up action.
  • Facilitate patient referrals to specialists and resource providers as needed.
  • Follow up on missed appointments.
  • Maintain monthly statistics and OB List.
  • Perform intake and subsequent interviews with OB patients to identify nutrition and psychosocial risks/problems using the Care Coordination Record.
  • Provide initial and periodic health promotion that includes topics specified in the Care Coordinator Health Promotion Log.
  • Secure authorization as per Healthy Beginnings and managed care guidelines.


  • Completion of an accredited professional school of nursing required. 
  • 3-5 years of RN experience required
    • Preferred OB/GYN clinical experience and experience providing maternal health education 
  • EMR/Triage experience preferred
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred
  • Ability to move within the unit and lift/move patients, equipment, and supplies as required. 
  • Ability to manipulate equipment used in the performance of duties. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
  • Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • Registered Nurse
