Under the direction of management and more senior members of the team, the Software Engineer - Technical Lead will contribute to the overall Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) by independently completing projects and tasks by meeting established quality measures. This candidate needs to be proficient in Mobile Hybrid app development, HTML5, CSS and Angular.  The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience designing, developing and testing hybrid mobile applications with either Cordova, Ionic, NativeScript or React/React Native. This position sits within UPMC Health Plan.

  • Application Development Cycle - Show the ability to define how to use different SDLCs. Establish process around SDLCs.
  • Communication - Responsible for demonstrating appropriate, clear, concise, and effective written and oral communications in all interactions to build relationships and accomplish day to day work and projects.
  • Design - Implement the overall system design. Exhibit awareness of user experience standards.
  • Participate in sprint planning with product owners, scrum masters, back end developers and review product requirements.

  • Create application builds and deploy to the various app stores.

  • Create prototypes and setup best practices for application development.

  • Perform unit tests, bug diagnostics, troubleshooting and bug resolution when necessary.

  • Leveraging one of the frameworks listed above, create maintainable solutions.

  • Design and implement software that meets product requirements, promotes reusability and testability and facilitates support

  • Provide estimates and work breakdown structures

  • Interactions with Others - Successfully completes projects, tasks, and initiatives by embracing a team-first approach. Works in collaboration with team and offers feedback, where appropriate, to complete individual and group efforts. Shows the ability to adjust and be flexible to change by adapting approach when necessary. Mentors less experienced staff.
  • Project Management - Responsible For time tracking and updating documentation. Plan and lead projects, including staff coordination. Collaborate with other technical teams, as appropriate, for successful completion of projects. Lead POC Evaluations.
  • Self Development - Responsible for continuous self-study, trainings, partnering with management and more senior members of team, and/or seeking out opportunities to broaden scope to stay up to date with industry and organizational trends. Seeks feedback from management and more senior team members for development and effectively incorporates feedback into work and behaviors.
  • .NET/C#

  • REST-based web services

  • Knowledge of Service Oriented Architectures (SOAs)

  • Team Foundation Server (TFS) and/or VSTS familiarity

  • SQL and/or stored procedure development

  • Agile/SCRUM familiarity


  • Typically has 7+ years of related work experience. 
  • Experience with complex development environments, taking abstract concepts and ideas and formulating a detailed software deliverable. 
  • Experience in developing on cross-functional systems. 
  • Deep knowledge of developing complete systems. 
  • Expertise in cross-platform mobile app development

  • Understand iOS and Android platforms.

  • Detail oriented and organized, able to understand information systems and ensure accuracy of work

  • Excellent communication skills. Position will require developing and giving presentations

  • Demonstrated expertise selecting and utilizing open source products in applications and solutions

  • Experience working in an agile environment (Agile and Scrum)

  • Experience developing web-based and cloud hosted applications utilizing HTML5, JavaScript, CSS

  • Source Control: git, GitLab, GitHub

  • Web Servers: Apache, Nginx

  • Operating Systems: Android, iOS, Windows

  • Excellent Angular 4 development skills

  • Excellent JavaScript skills

  • Expertise in at least one framework (Cordova, Ionic, NativeScript or React/React Native)

  • Proficient in both oral and written communication.
Preferred Skills
  • Responsive web design concepts (whiteboard)

  • SASS/SCSS development (whiteboard)

  • Semantic HTML/CSS development at both page-level and component-level (whiteboard)

Salary Range: $43.83 to $71.29
