UPMC Corporate Supply Chain is seeking a full-time Director, Supply Chain Management, to oversee our supply chain operations at our hospitals and clinics within the UPMC Susquehanna and UPMC Pinnacle systems, located in the Williamsport and Harrisburg/York areas.

This position will be tentatively based in Harrisburg, PA, with potential for flexibility based on the successful candidate's home location.

As Director of Supply Chain Management, you will have the primary responsibility of monitoring the performance of all supply chain management services in your assigned region to ensure care delivery is uninterrupted, that financial targets are met and Enterprise Corporate Policy compliance is achieved. This includes supply chain functions such as procurement, sourcing operations, value analysis, supply/demand planning, logistics, warehousing, distribution, inventory integration, biomedical engineering and local supplier management.

A highly visible position, the Director will serve as a supply chain representative at service-line and executive meetings and committees for the assigned region and draw upon the expertise and guidance of supply chain professionals across UPMC to deliver supply chain strategies, practices, and metrics to effectively deliver optimal value.

As a key member of the supply chain leadership team, the goal of the Director is to lower and optimize non-payroll cost structures while improving service delivery to enhance operating margins.

  • Actively participate in the implementation of new services and programs. Actively participate in the enforcement of all UPMC SCM policies, rules, regulations. Interface with business leadership to ensure that effective management of the spend portfolio occurs at all levels of the organization and that business requirements and needs are met. Continually identify new short and long-term improvement projects that result in measurable value.
  • Be jointly accountable for meeting region's supply expense savings targets and for improving overall customer satisfaction targets.
  • Be the primary SCM executive contact and liaison for all activities for the region.
  • Build and maintain strong local relationships at key levels with the objective of being a trusted business partner
  • Collaborate with strategic sourcing and other supply chain functions to optimize available contract offerings and operationalize contract terms and conditions to drive contract growth, enabling breakthrough thinking, conflict resolution, and effective communication and managing any cultural differences.
  • Drive and deliver competitive advantage and cost savings for region by managing the execution of a comprehensive SCM approach utilizing the contracts, content, services, and strategies developed across the Supply Chain Management departments.
  • Ensure alignment and interface with other organizations to effectively execute the defined central SCM category and sourcing strategies and tactics. Under the direction of and in collaboration with central SCM, monitor supplier performance and improvement programs ensure compliance with agreements and operational needs. Provide regional leadership in support of Supplier relationship activity to insure continuous quality and delivery of supply to meet business demands. Support and collaborate in the development of supply chain contingency plans for sole source or critical items to prevent supply interruption. Work with SCM resources to drive product standardization and identify lower cost alternative products and services
  • Manage effective communications between SCM and regional leaders and staff through a progressive escalation framework
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and incorporate sufficient representational feedback when considering operational changes. Provide input to and monitor operating and capital budgets.
  • Provide input to the development of KPI's and monitor regional performance reporting to other SCM functional leaders as needed and assigned.
  • Support an effective Value Analysis program. The Value Analysis role could include but is not limited to managing compliance to and with Value Analysis processes and decisions, supporting the cost-effective utilization of products, setting and directing Value Analysis objectives, ensuring product and purchased service evaluations are executed consistently and according to company policy and departmental processes. The Regional Director will also participate as a member/chair/co-chair of any related executive level committees.
  • Support analytical insights to deliver value beyond price.
  • Work with SCM teams to drive program/project schedules and contract deliverables that support the business with a focus on delivering on contractual commitments made.


  • Bachelors degree required
  • Advanced degree in Healthcare or Business Administration or similar (MS, JD, etc.) is preferred, but not required
  • Minimum of 10 years leadership / personnel management experience required 
  • Minimum of 5 years healthcare experience is required
  • Healthcare Supply Chain Experience 
  • IT or Finance experience a plus
  • Proven skills in relationship management, financial / business management, program management and people management
