Provide professional server/ wait person level of service to the department. Responsible for set-up, service and clean-up of all assigned meetings, functions and events. Will have the ability to prioritize and appropriately handle all catering requests, in a professional, pleasant and congenial manner, and effectively communicate with their manager to assure that all requests are handled completely, accurately and timely.  This position will be Monday-Thursday, with the occasional Friday as needed.  

  • Ability to work overtime when required.
  • At all times, act in a professional manner and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Carries out job duties in a manner that is consistent with the service management vision of UPMC which includes the demonstration of appropriate behavior toward management, staff, peers and visitors.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with all levels of staff and with outside contacts to ensure all requests are handled expeditiously and accurately.
  • Demonstrates: personal responsibility to ensure 100% accuracy in every aspect of the job; a take charge attitude to ensure all assignments are executed completely and accurately; and responsibility in punctuality.
  • Effectively contribute excellence in service to the operations of the Business and Corporate Events team.
  • Effectively maintain a professional atmosphere with all levels of faculty, staff, peers and visitors.
  • Ensure all equipment, linens, service ware, and glassware are clean and sanitized prior to use.
  • Ensure delivery, set and clean-up of all catered activities on multiple floors throughout the building.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen, and observe all safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Maintain neat and professional appearance by wearing a clean uniform at all times.
  • Meet and discuss with the manager the expectations of the kitchen operations; disseminate this information to all support staff and assure that events occur appropriately.
  • Responsible for executing the set-up, service, and clean-up of all catered functions and requests with limited supervision.
  • Supervisor is informed of any problems that may arise in the day to day operation of the kitchen.


  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum two years work experience in either a catering or restaurant setting
  • Ability to work and exercise sound judgment when completing tasks
  • Good organizational and communication skills necessary
  • Good command of the English language, including spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • Punctuality required
  • Ability to work extended hours when required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or similar processes

Salary Range: $15.13 to $23.82
