Supervise and coordinate the activities of Lead Persons Floor & Project Technician and Housekeepers engaged in cleaning and maintaining premises of UPMC. Assign tasks to workers, and inspect completed work for conformance to standards. Oversee the distribution of supplies and equipment. Resolve employee problems or refer matters to the Operations Manager.

  • Act as a liaison between all shifts with no noted communication problems.
  • Advise manager of personnel problems in their initial stages to arrive at a comprehensive solution to avoid major grievances; provide a forum for discussion and resolution of personnel problems to ensure positive and professional interaction; advise manager of either the resolution of the problem or the need for further investigation. Upon direction from upper management, investigate continuing problems and use all necessary resources to follow through to a permanent solution.
  • Attend all mandatory departmental and hospital in-services.
  • Carry and answer 24 hours pager.
  • Check assigned areas regularly to ensure personnel are performing work and following their work schedule. React appropriately to noted observations, and reinforce behavior through either praise or corrective action.
  • Complete a minimum of 5 inspections daily utilizing Pocket PC Technology.
  • Complete supervisor's Development Program. Prepare sign-in sheets at least one week in advance. Start the shift on time and arranges to have adequate coverage at all times by using personnel effectively. Ensure that all chemicals and solutions are in properly labeled containers at all times. Oversee Lead Housekeepers, Housekeepers, and Floor and Project Technicians. Ability to work under pressure as difficult situations arises. Prepare administrative and employee documentation, monitor employee records and performance, meeting establish deadlines or respond in an efficient and timely manner. Make recommendations for, and assist with, corrective action under guidance or Operations Manager. Approve PTO assigned staff within departmental guidelines.
  • Daily contact with head nurses and/or unit clerks to discuss opportunities.
  • Discharges in area of responsibility are completed within one hour from the time it is assigned.
  • Ensure that sufficient supplies and equipment are available.
  • Equipment is kept clean at all times, and in good running order.
  • Inspect 10% of all discharges when assigned to patient areas.
  • Oversee testing and training to ensure compliance with TJC, AAALAC, Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), DLAR, Department of Agriculture, etc., guidelines, as applicable.
  • Participate in administering of department policies and employee contractual agreements, under the direction of the Manager, Facilities.
  • Perform assigned duties in case of internal and external disasters, and fires/drills.
  • Present department in a positive manner to patients, visitors and other hospital personnel.
  • Provide all legitimate requests within facility are met immediately, giving the department a high reputation for service.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision of the University of Pittsburgh SEIU Local 32BJ employees, a 24 hour/7 day per week staff, to ensure continuous improvement in productivity and quality while managing daily staffing requirements and schedules to ensure that work and special assignments are completed in a timely manne
  • Responsible for all facets of payroll procedures, including but not limited to: ensuring that employee hours worked, including overtime, are properly submitted according to deadline, ensuring that contractual obligations are met, preparation and processing of employee records, submission of scheduled salary increases, and tracking of compensated absences.
  • Responsible for all front line staff under their reporting structure. Responsibilities include: employee orientation and retention, performance appraisals and hiring recommendations, progressive discipline, compliance with training requirements, seniority and overtime rotation.
  • Submit work orders for all applicable maintenance repairs in the area of responsibility.


HS Diploma/GED required 3 years relevant experience required 1 year relevant leadership experience required Knowledge and familiarity with chemical use and dilution rates. Basic computer knowledge to include familiarity with MS Office.
