The UPMC HIV/AIDS Program is seeking a full-time Clinical Psychologist to join its multidisciplinary clinical team. The HIV/AIDS Program is part of UPMC’s Center for the Care of Infectious Diseases (hospital-based clinic) and serves over 1600 HIV-infected adults in the setting of an outpatient Patient-Centered Medical Home. The candidate for this position will provide clinical assessment and treatment of patients ages 18 and over with diagnosed and undiagnosed mental health needs. Ideal candidates will have experience working with an adult population in a medical setting. Candidates with expertise in treating complex trauma and PTSD, individuals with drug and alcohol issues, chronic pain, chronic illness, or who have worked with underserved populations are preferred. The position offers opportunities for cross-discipline collaboration and mentoring.

The Psychologist II position requires clinical expertise in the assessment and treatment of adult patients. The individual in this position is responsible for direct psychiatric care of HIV patients. The individual will be skilled at psychiatric diagnosis and responsible for providing outpatient psychiatric care using various psychotherapy modalities (individual, group, and family) to patients seen in the outpatient clinic

  • Consults and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams regarding patient care and treatment planning.
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain accurate and complete records and data collection, performed in a timely fashion.
  • Demonstrates highly developed knowledge and skill in the area of differential diagnosis of psychiatric disorders.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant literature and empirically validated treatments.
  • Maintains knowledge of the literature relevant to the relevant patient population.
  • Participates in regular supervisory meetings with direct supervisor to review adherence to program standards.
  • Performs psychological assessment with accurate diagnostic impressions.
  • Provides behavioral health services in using an acute and maintenance model.
  • Provides behavioral health services, using empirically validated treatments and interventions.
  • Provides crisis sessions to support and assist patients experiencing acute distress and/or symptoms, as needed.
  • Provides formal teaching and supervision for staff and trainees.
  • Schedules sufficient volume of patients so that direct service productivity standards are maintained within the department.
  • Works collaboratively with other service lines at UPMC and outside agencies assuring continuity of care with referral sources and other providers. May participate in research efforts by assisting in subject recruitment, conducting research assessments or treatment, as directed by supervisor.


  • Doctoral degree in Psychology (PsyD or PhD) from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of experience in Psychology or related field.
  • Post-doctoral fellowship in position specific area (preferred).
  • Completion of an APA accredited pre-doctoral internship.
  • EMDR practitioner preferred.
  • Experience in trauma-informed care desired.
  • Excellent clinical interviewing and assessment/therapy skills to work with patients and families.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Pennsylvania Psychologist license
