The Sr. Manager, Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) supports the AVP of ERM and the ERM program for the Insurance Services Division of UPMC. This role interacts and communicates with all levels of management and across the organization on complex health insurance business processes and risk topics. The Sr. Manager, ERM is responsible for the ongoing support of risk management activities at UPMC and achievement of program objectives.


ERM departmental deliverables: Risk monitoring, assessments, and reporting Regulatory risk reporting. Economic Capital Modeling Financial Stress Testing Support management risk committees and working groups Special projects and risk mitigation activities.


  • Collaborates with other departments to support risk activities.
  • Develop and enhance ERM tools, practices, and policies to analyze and report on enterprise risks, and to manage risks according to established risk framework.
  • Develop the organization's ERM policies and strategies in alignment with applicable regulations, standards, and strategic imperatives of the organization.
  • Liaison with the board, management and other stakeholders.
  • Manages ERM departmental data and records.
  • Project management of special projects and assignments.
  • Risk communications through dashboards and presentations.
  • Support various risk and governance committees that interact with the ERM program to ensures alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Supports regulatory risk reporting and other compliance related activities.
  • Supports risk monitoring and assessments.


The successful candidate will have these traits:

  • Strong interest and background in Enterprise Risk Management and risk management
  • With a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in the insurance, health care, financial services or related industries.
  • Managerial experience of 4 years minimum in progressively responsible roles.
  • Exposure to one or more ERM topics such as risk modeling, financial analysis, actuarial sciences, insurance operations, audit, or internal controls.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities/projects in a fast-paced professional environment and meet time-sensitive deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Business minded partner and collaborator who continually builds relationships, consensus and coalitions to get things done.
  • Ability to work effectively both as an individual and as a member of a team and interact effectively and professionally with all levels of management and staff.
  • Demonstrate strong emotional intelligence, self-awareness and ethical behavior.


  • Accredited bachelors degree required (risk management, actuarial sciences, business/economics, finance and accounting).
  • Masters or MBA desirable. ERM or related risk management certification desired.
  • Expertise in all core MS software, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Salary Range: $33.94 to $57.47 / hour
