UPMC Enterprise Infrastructure Technology is hiring a Systems Engineer - Intermediate to help support, administer, maintain and enhance its Enterprise Monitoring Systems which consists of tools such as Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), IBM Tivoli Monitoring and VROPS (VMWare Realize Operations Manager). The candidate will work in the Forbes Tower location in Oakland, PA. This position will work standard business hours. 

Under the general direction of the management team and senior staff, this senior level position provides basic analytical and/or programming services; developing, maintaining, implementing and enhancing the existing SCOM, ITM and VROPS architecture and related systems; and providing services to meet client IT and business needs.

  • Communication - Responsible for demonstrating appropriate, clear, concise, and effective written and oral communications in all interactions to build relationships and accomplish day to day work and projects.
  • Core Technology Concepts - Responsible for understanding of moderately complex technologies and their use. Demonstrates initiative to learn and expand upon knowledge.
  • End user support - Resolve moderately complex end-user support issues with the assistance of more senior level team members.
  • Interactions with Others - Successfully completes projects, tasks, and initiatives by embracing a team-first approach. Works in collaboration with team and offers feedback, where appropriate, to complete individual and group efforts. Shows the ability to adjust and be flexible to change by adapting approach when necessary. Mentors less experienced staff.
  • Maintenance/Upgrades - Follow documented procedures for maintenance and upgrades. Assist senior team members with upgrade and maintenance plans. Responsible for assisting with Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Project Management - Complete assigned project-related tasks with limited guidance. Responsible for time tracking and updating documentation.
  • Self Development - Responsible for continuous self-study, trainings, partnering with more senior members of team, and/or seeking out opportunities to broaden scope to stay up to date with industry and organizational trends. Seeks feedback from senior team members for development and effectively incorporates feedback into work and behaviors
  • Troubleshooting/Critical Thinking - Independently resolve basic issues. Shows the ability to offer input on issue resolution


  • Typically has 2+ years experience with complex systems environments through education or practical experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform standard IT procedures and protocols.
  • This position may be required to maintain a 24/7 off hours support as part of a rotation within the team.
  • The frequency varies based upon the number of colleagues in the rotation.


  • Advanced understanding of enterprise monitoring and event management tool sets such as SCOM (Microsoft Operations Manager), Microsoft Orchestrator, IBM Tivoli Monitoring, IBM Tivoli Netcool Omnibus
  • Any experience with other similar monitoring tools such as BMC Patrol, Nagios, Monitis, Zabbix, Uptime, VROPS, etc would also be considered.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Operations Manager (SCOM) is preferred.
  • Ability to work with business and IT analysts/support engineers to identify monitoring requirements and setup the appropriate monitoring that would meet their application / infrastructure needs.
  • Experience with any Enterprise Level Monitoring Solutions would be a plus.
  • Ability to create dashboards, reports, views and alerts to provide real-time insight into infrastructure and application performance problems.                                                          
  • Good understanding of systems integration to be able to design solutions that would meet the enterprise needs by co-relating data from various different source tools.
  • Must have basic programming experience and be familiar with scripting technologies such as PowerShell, bash, ksh, shell, python. etc.
  • Any other programming experience would be a plus.
  • Produces technical solutions that are dependable, modifiable and scalable.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Infrastructure and application monitoring tools from vendors such as Microsoft, IBM, HP, Splunk, ServiceNow, Cherwell, etc would be a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with Splunk such as searching the data, creating dashboards, etc would be a plus.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and strong technical learning aptitude required and a strong team player capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Salary Range: $35.09 to $53.48
