Description

UPMC Hamot is hiring a flex full-time Quality Nurse Coordinator (RN) for our Quality Effectiveness Department at the Hamot Medical Center location in Erie, PA. Our Quality Nurse Coordinator can expect to work primarily Monday-Friday schedule with daylight hours varying from 8:00 A.M to 4:30 P.M.


The RN coordinates QI activity and supports various functions within the Quality Effectiveness Department throughout all departments of the hospital, working both independently and as a team member. The functions include but are not limited to education and improvement initiatives, committee support, regulatory and accreditation standard adherence, delegation oversight, performance monitoring and assessment, clinical practice guideline management, data collection, abstraction and analysis and the continual advancement of the quality improvement process.


Responsibilities:

  • Applies best practice knowledge to improvement efforts Practices solid verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates critical thinking in the analysis of clinical, social, safety, psychological and spiritual issues for the patient care. Incorporates national professional organization as well as business unit and health system's goals to improve patient safety, quality and satisfaction of the patient experience in work. Disseminates new knowledge and innovations through presentations, posters, and publications.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to identify opportunities for success with regulatory requirements Partners with hospital leaders to implement change Demonstrates project management skills Serves as a leader in clinical nursing practice, identifying patient and staff focused opportunities for improvement and leading the change process. Identifies, educates and supports the psychological and learning needs of staff during change and transition. Practices participatory leadership and is an active member of shared leadership at the unit, facility or system level. Participates with the peer review process.
  • Interacts with variety of staff Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by building teams and relationships through mentoring and modeling uplifting and positive communication. Coaches colleagues on cultural diversity and addresses workplace horizontal violence and impairment. Demonstrates accountability to self and others for safe work hours, time management and healthy lifestyles.
  • Reviews and extracts patient information from the medical record Demonstrates innovation and leads change through process flow/analysis Demonstrates expertise in PI/CQI and with methods such as lean, Toyota and or six sigma Interprets and analyzes data and identifies areas for improvement Leads core measure and other processes teams Uses measurement and analytics skills to identify areas for improvement Exhibits knowledge of the fiscal implications of quality outcomes Improves processes
  • Utilizes appropriate computer systems to obtain data, enter and develop reporting tools Demonstrates interest in the development of others and positively impacts the lives of patients/families, peers, and members of the healthcare team through mentoring, education, and knowledge sharing. Mentors and role models quest for continuous learning through formal education and the development of others. Seeks opportunities to share expertise with other members of the healthcare team

Qualifications

  • BS/BSN degree required at time of hire/transfer.
  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of nursing experience required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate skills to understand and interpret data.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Exemplary critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others.
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    UPMC approved national certification preferred.

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Registered Nurse
