The UPMC Health Plan Member Services/ Enrollment Team is currently hiring a full-time Director, Member Services and Enrollment for the Erie, PA office.  This department needs someone who is willing to not only build and lead a strong team, but also to be an advocate for our members and to proudly wear the badge of UPMC Health Plan. With a close-knit work environment and a dedicated culture of service excellence, our Member Services Team educates and guides our customers through coverage, claims, and other program inquiries.


The Director, Member Services is responsible for the planning, organization, and direction of the member and provider services departments. The Director provides leadership, direction, and administration for all aspects of the services provided to these operational areas to ensure compliance with the goals and objectives established by UPMC Health Plan's executive management team.  This role would be based out of our Erie, Pa office with occasional travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. 


  • Develops operating budget for functional area and manages the area consistent with the budget.
  • Ensure the attainment of the Health Plan's strategic business objectives by identifying recruiting, developing, directing, and evaluating Health Plan personnel with the functional area. Specify personnel accountabilities and evaluate performance regularly
  • Establish and delegate the job duties or all positions within the functional areas.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of training and development programs.
  • Ensures operational performance within the member and provider services departments through critical decision making that assures customer objectives are reached.
  • Evaluate the external environment and develop long range plans that support the Health Plan's philosophy and business objectives.
  • Informs and advises the Associate Vice President and COO of current trends, issues, problems, and activities in functional areas and develops and implements appropriate interventions to facilitate problem resolution and policy making.
  • Interacts extensively with internal and external customers to build and maintain positive relationships supporting the business goals and objectives; acts as departmental liaison.
  • Participate in the development of the departmental strategic business plan to achieve Health Plan objectives.


  • B.S. degree in Business or Health Care required or equivalent of eight years industry related experience.
  • Five to seven years of management experience in a call center or health care industry required.
  • Excellent communication skills; verbal, written, and interpersonal.
  • Above average analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong leadership skills and independent decision making ability.
  • Proven project management expertise required
  • Ability to react to users needs in a timely and efficient manner and direct staff with minimal amount of supervision.
