Description

Purpose:

Procirca, a Pittsburgh based perfusion service company with an office in Maryland is seeking a lead blood management technologist for the Baltimore/D.C. area. The ideal candidate will have experience with intra and postoperative operation of blood recovery and component separation devices.  This position requires strong interpersonal skills. The schedule involves working Monday – Friday with rotating call at multiple hospitals within a 40 mile radius of Washington D.C.  Compensation commensurate with experience.  Excellent benefit package and travel reimbursement provided.


Responsibilities:
  • Assist with staff performance evaluations.
  • Assure optimal communication, close cooperation, and consultation with attending physicians
  • Create blood management reports for transfusion committee.
  • Develop effective instruction and supervision of students, if applicable, by adhering to the program and clinical objectives of the UPMC School of Perfusion. Completes evaluations of perfusion students.
  • Filing of appropriate records, both with the institution serviced, as well as BioTronics corporate office.
  • Maintain and supervise inventory, equipment, and maintenance of equipment. Assist with the transport of equipment and evaluation of new equipment or process.
  • Maintain proficiency with the operation and maintenance of a variety of autologous blood equipment and procedures such as autologous cell salvage, production of concentrated platelet rich plasma (PRP), as well as other technical advancements in the field of autologous blood therapies
  • Manage PeriApp database
  • Manage clinical personnel coverage.
  • Manage quality assurance program as established by the perioperative blood management program and each client institution.
  • Obtain 10 CEU's per year.
  • Participate on one hospital and one BioTronics committee.
  • Provide autologous blood therapy services as required, including set-up and operation of autologous blood therapy devices according to established policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely documentation of procedures.
  • Responsible for preparation of call schedule and coverage.
  • Seek new business opportunities relative to the delivery of blood management services, platelet gel therapy and perfusion services.
  • Supervise clinical education competencies related to the delivery of autologous blood therapies.
  • Supervise education, orientation, and training of new staff, perfusion students or interested personnel and documentation.
  • Support corporate contractual obligations with various institutions by contributing to the successful execution of those services.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Health Science and/or Certification related to health science from a technical school program. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of related hospital blood management services experience or related manufacturer experience and/or demonstrates equivalent proficiencies. 
  • Distinct knowledge of blood recovery and component therapy devices. 
  • Distinct knowledge of Cell Saver machines of various manufacturers and Platelet Gel Therapy. 
  • Distinct knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, physics, chemistry, hospital structure and regulatory requirements (as applicable). 
  • Valid drivers license.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
AmSECT Perioperative Blood Management Specialist Certification within 12 months of accepting employment
