UPMC Avalon Springs is hiring a full-time Dietary Cook to help support the Dietary department.

Responsible for compliance with policies and procedures, current federal, state and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing dietary, as may be directed by the Director of Dietary to assure that quality nutritional services are provided on a daily basis.


  • Ability to direct functions and personnel in absence of Dietary Director and maintain schedule.
  • Prepares food as directed by Daily Spread Sheet.
  • Carves and portions meat for serving hot foods on tray line.
  • Checks special diet trays to be sure they are accurate.
  • Follows cleaning list for daily assignments.
  • Prepares food using safe food handling techniques and produces cost effective meals.
  • Prepares food which is palatable and appetizing in appearance and taste.
  • Follows oral and written directions.
  • Follows written menus and standardized recipes to produce acceptable products.
  • Understands and prepares therapeutic diets.
  • Responsible for meeting meal schedules assuring safe food temperatures are maintained.
  • Responsible for meeting meal schedules assuring safe food.
  • Serves food on tray line according to instructions and responds to resident preferences and dislikes.
  • Responsible for safe operation and care of food service equipment.
  • Reports suspected or known resident abuse to the Director of Nursing or Administrator immediately.
  • Anticipates and acts to maintain a safe work environment. Incorporates safety/risk management standards into daily work practice


High School Graduate of equivalent required. Previous experience in quantity and institutional cooking required. Positive interpersonal skills to interact with others required

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Older Adult Protective Svs Act
