The UPMC Insurance Services Division Market Intelligence team is looking for a Market Intelligence Analyst to primarily support WorkPartners. WorkPartners provides health and productivity solutions to companies throughout the United States. This position leverages strong data collection and analytical skills to synthesize marketplace intelligence into actionable deliverables that will help WorkPartners to pursue its organizational objectives.  Aggregate, analyze and synthesize marketing data into communicable deliverables, provide value-add commentaries that will help guide strategic business decisions. Ability to monitor and track industry trends related to WorkPartner’s multiple lines of business. Team member will be regarded as subject-matter expert on WorkPartner’s lines of business and will demonstrate ability to share knowledge and provide educated opinions that inform marketing and business strategy on related topics. While mainly supporting the WorkPartners business, this position will occasionally support other areas of the Insurance Services Division.

  • Aggregate, analyze, and synthesize marketing data including member data (products, claims), demographic and lifestyle variables, and customer response data into informative reports and presentations to various internal audiences.
  • Continuously develop analytical skills and techniques, refine and improve communication techniques for sharing analytical findings with non-technical audiences.
  • Develop baseline metrics with which to compare relative success of marketing campaigns.
  • Develop internal communication vehicles designed to help streamline the delivery of marketing analytics findings and reports.
  • Efficiently and effectively respond to ad hoc analysis requests, while simultaneously managing multiple projects with tight deadlines.
  • Gather ongoing input from internal and external teams such as sales and marketing and brokers to continuously enhance and refine deliverables.
  • Identify, evaluate and share views on competitive marketing campaign tactics.
  • Partner with teams and departments to gain a strong understanding of UPMC Health Plan products and consumers, and the business needs to support both segments.
  • Perform high-level analysis using all available data sources to effectively communicate strategy recommendations to marketing in order to meet business objectives, optimize channel effectiveness, and improve ROI.
  • Use advanced analytical techniques to identify key drivers of campaign success and use this knowledge to optimize segmentation and channel utilization.
  • Use understanding of member profiles versus prospect segments to inform strategy for targeting new segments for product development and for improving acquisition campaign effectiveness.
  • Work closely with Marketing Campaign Managers and Marketing Strategy Managers to assist in campaign execution to meet business goals.
  • Work closely with the sales, marketing and product development teams to create a deep understanding of membership by line of business and by product for the organization.
  • Work independently on projects and, from time to time, with little direction from manager.


  • B.A./B.S. degree in Business Administration, Marketing or equivalent required. 
  • Five to six years of experience in marketing, preferably analysis, market research, or related experience required. 
  • Insurance industry experience preferred. 
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to synthesize data into actionable information. 
  • Ability to work with databases and analytical tools. 
  • Fast-learner who has a creative ability to develop reports, leveraging quantitative and qualitative data. 
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, the intensity to focus on small details, and the talent to think big-picture.
  • Proficient with the Internet and MS Office tools, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 
  • Ability to write queries using either SQL or base SAS.
  • Ability to use statistical analysis software (e.g. SPSS or SAS) a plus.
  • Strong communications skills and the ability to present acquired knowledge and views in written and/or verbal fashion. 
  • Ability to support and manage internal clients across various business units. 
  • Self-started mentality, with an ability to work independently on projects. 
  • Experience working with minimal direction, with a keen ability to leverage business-sense to guide decision making.
  • Previous experience in wellness, healthcare IT, and/or worker's compensation is preferred.
