Description

The Maintenance Technician completes basic maintenance work orders from staff and residents including changing light bulbs, unclog toilets, hang pictures, trouble shoot minor problems, etc.

 

This is a Regular Full-Time position, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Responsibilities:

  • Clean resident room carpeting as directed to allow for quick turn around of vacant apartments. Clean spills and spots on carpeting. BMS staff and suppliers will provide training. Perform planned carpet and tile cleaning of public areas should be contracted through the BMS.
  • Contract wallpaper work through BMS. Move residents furniture and belongings from room to room as requested by supervisor. Move into other UPMC Senior Living facilities should be contracted through BMS.
  • Familiarize self with regulations and codes regarding facility and notify supervisor of deficiencies. Employee may be contacted after hours to handle minor emergencies eveniof the position is not a 24-hour on call position however.
  • Maintain log of these tests for review of agencies and supervisors. Order light bulbs, plumbing supplies, and other minor items whose orders total less than $250. Approval of supervisor needed. All items purchased that are larger than $250 should be directed to the Director of Maintenance.
  • Major emergencies should be communicated through the emergency maintenance pager. Operate the facility van when needed. Clean all exterior windows and screens twice a year or as directed.
  • Perform any HVAC, electrical, and plumbing work should be contracted though BMS. Perform work that would change the characteristic of the building or change the quality of the material installed should be brought to the attention of the Director of Facilities and Construction before proceeding.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance work orders from the corporate office. Set up apartments with model furniture or resident furniture as directed. Test the water temperature, emergency, and fire systems regularly as policy dictates.
  • Perform minor painting and patching of room and public area spaces, work above 100 SF should be contracted through BMS.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Older Adult Protective Services Act
