Instruction of Alcohol Highway Safety School

  • Adhere to all confidentiality agreements as required by state and federal law.
  • Adhere to all personnel policies and procedures relating to Mon Yough DUI Program/Mon-Yough Community Services, Inc.
  • Complete all paperwork and documentation(s) required with class instruction in a timely and accurate manner. Explain, review and sign off on the authorization for release of information and consent to breathalyzer testing Each day of class clients will submit to breath testing. If client tests positive follow directions that appear on the Consent to Breathalyzer Testing.
  • Explain, review and sign off on the required 1543 (b) form - Driving Under Suspension Have clients sign in each day of class (sign-in sheet), after lunch take role to make sure all attendees are present. Review and correct any errors on the Master Roster. If clients address, phone number(s), or probation officer needs updated/corrected write changes on the master roster. Follow any directions that are identified on the Master Roster. Distribute and collect the feedback forms at the end of each class cycle. Distribute and collect the Pre and Post Test If clients are recommended for DUI Treatment Group, please make sure to review/change their schedule needs if indicated. Responsible for the collection and recording of fees assessed for class.
  • Instruct multiple offender and/or first time offender Alcohol Highway Safety Class as scheduled, accountable for 6-8 classes per annually at minimum.. 12.5 hrs of mandatory instruction.
  • Maintain instructor certification as required by the Department of Transportation/Allegheny County Alcohol Highway Safety Program. Recertification is required every two years from the date of certification (the date of participation in the Performance Analysis Workshop), individuals have two years to accrue 12 hours of approved education credits in order to be re-certified. The training is offered thru the PA DUI Association. All potential candidates for certification/recertification must be endorsed by the DUI Coordinator of the county in which the instructor will be teaching.
  • Network with Allegheny County Probation and Parole Offices as needed.
  • The instructor must fulfill three major responsibilities: 1. Establish a positive learning environment (establish a classroom that fosters open discussion) 2. Meet the need for information Contact areas that need to be covered in class include: Nature and scope of the DUI problem, dangers of DUI, DUI law, drugs and the human body, polydrug use, drugs and driving skill, DUI arrest effects on family and job, drug abuse and addiction, support for drug abuse and addiction, and behaviors to prevent DUI. 3. Promote active participation Utilization of learning activities that facilitate participation Questions and answers, written assignments, small group assignments/class discussions, self assessment instruments, audio-visual presentations, etc.
  • � Attend any required meetings scheduled by Mon Yough DUI Program., Mon Yough Community Services, Inc., PA DUI Association, Allegheny County Probation and Parole and Allegheny County Alcohol Highway Safety Program.


  • Bachelor's Degree 
  • Certification for Alcohol Highway Safety Instructor as required by PA DUI Association and Department of Transportation C.R.N. 
  • Evaluation certification or understanding of C.R.N. Evaluation.

  • Act 31 Clearance
  • Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
