Description

UPMC Passavant is currently hiring a Full-Time Monitor Technician to help support the Cardiac Monitoring Center at our McCandless location.  The Monitor Technician delivers quality care to assigned patients by correlating EKG patterns with physical symptomatology.

Responsibilities:

  • Accept responsibilities of other duties as assigned.
  • Accurately obtain and transmit 12 lead EKG.
  • Accurately record all observations, assessments and interventions in the patient's medical record.
  • Apply EKG interpretation skills to clinical practice.
  • Apply/reapply monitor leads to patient appropriately.
  • Assist with answering the telephone cordially and politely; identifying self and department.
  • Assist with chart maintenance.
  • Assist with recording of vital signs on patient's record.
  • Assist with transfer of patient on and off wheeled equipment.
  • Conduct daily defibrillator checks.
  • Continually review and revise rhythm classes in the cardiac monitoring system.
  • Continuously observe cardiac monitors.
  • Develop ability to use patient tracking system.
  • Evaluate ABC's.
  • Identify and respond to customer needs.
  • Inform RN of important information concerning patient's cardiac rhythm.
  • Initiate rescue breathing and activate Code 333 or Condition C per hospital policy.
  • Obtain and translate rhythm strips at the beginning of each shift and as needed.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement Process as assigned.
  • Promote quality by monitoring work processes, identifying opportunities for improvement, and promoting safe environment.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to requests for service.
  • Treat customers with care, courtesy, and respect.
  • Troubleshoot monitors (i.e., alarms, replacing batteries, recording paper and electrodes).

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • EMT or previous monitoring experience preferred.
  • Completion of Basic Arrhythmia Class.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
