The Association of American Cancer Institutes (AACI) is searching for a Government Relations Manager to join their team! This role will be responsible for government relations and public policy activities for the organization. This includes monitoring and evaluating the impact of current and pending policy and legislative initiatives on the nation's cancer centers and the cancer community in general, planning and execution of AACI Government Relations forum meetings and events, management of annual Capitol Hill Day, partnering with other major national cancer organizations, drafting and disseminating calls to action and legislative briefs, and other related activities.

This role is based at the Medical Arts building in Pittsburgh.  The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm.  This position will require travel about 25% of the time.

  • Author position statements, testimony, issue briefs, and calls-to-action regarding federal policy issues affecting the cancer center community
  • Collaborate with partner organizations in order to coordinate scheduling, messaging, and logistics for annual Capitol Hill day, as well as ad hoc projects throughout the year
  • Communicate a working knowledge of AACI's expanded portfolio of federal policy issues affecting the cancer center community, including the federal investment in biomedical research, third party payer coverage for cancer clinical trials, and other legislation impacting academic cancer centers
  • Communicate cancer policy updates to AACI staff and cancer center community, including writing copy pertaining to public issues activity for monthly AACI Update, AACI Commentary, and other AACI communications
  • Create and manage policy related activities and initiatives for cancer center leaders, including but not limited to Capitol Hill visits, Congressional briefings, and legislator/staff visits to cancer centers Draft and disseminate calls to action and policy briefings to Government Relations Forum and AACI membership
  • Cultivate relationships with relevant Congressional, HHS, NIH and NCI staff to raise awareness of the nation�s cancer centers and further the goals of AACI members.
  • Distribute AACI cancer center news to Members of Congress and their staff
  • Maintain and frequently contribute to and update the public issues section of the AACI website
  • Make use of Ignite software product to promote cancer center communications to appropriate Congressional offices and committees
  • Manage all activities and in-person meetings of the AACI Government Relations Forum which includes senior government relations staff members from more than 40 cancer centers that advise AACI staff on cancer related public issues and inform their respective Members of Congress about the work of the nation's cancer centers
  • Management of Public Issues Activities Monitor and evaluate pending policy and legislation and determine the impact on AACI cancer centers and develop AACI�s response
  • Monitor and communicate federal policy issues to AACI cancer centers and sustaining members and internal colleagues through regular interactions with AACI Government Relations Forum members and like-minded advocacy and policy organizations
  • Produce funding and policy-related surveys and analyze results
  • Schedule policy-related conference calls and compile meeting minutes


  • Bachelor's degree required. 
  • Master's degree preferred. 
  • At least three years of experience in a public policy related position or degree in a related discipline required. 
  • Incumbent must be able to work both independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision. 
  • High level competence, strategic thinking and analytical skill required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
