The Research Associate within the Department of Radiation Oncology will work with a team to assist the building and expansion of research across the UPMC Radiation Oncology Network.

  • Advises Supervisor and Director of system errors and/or abnormal or unusual data requiring immediate action.
  • Assess the needs of the research database in regard to areas of potential problems and complaints to assist in the ongoing development of a new database. Provide Supervisor or database development staff with relevant information
  • Assists in entering subject trial registration and study status updates into CTMA.
  • Assists in the coordination of initiation, site evaluation, monitoring visits, and audits required by the sponsor.
  • Assists in verifying subject eligibility according to protocols by reviewing medical records, laboratory, and radiology or CT scan results.
  • Create study specific source documents, case report forms and study visit checklists.
  • Insures that patient's records, slides, radiology tests, lab work results, etc. are obtained and reviewed prior to patient entry into a study.
  • Performs according to system-wide competencies
  • Performs consenting process and study implementation of lab, registry, and non-therapeutic clinical trials.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs protocol completeness' checks upon request of supervisor. This requires knowledge of protocol schemes and tests required for each protocol.
  • Prepares monthly (or quarterly, as required) data summary reports for submission to principal investigators.
  • Process required documents as need for the research protocols.
  • Provide systems support and training to database users. Be flexible with work schedule to accommodate UPMC Cancer Center staff.
  • Responsible for prompt and accurate data collection for protocols.
  • Shares responsibility of managing the day to day activities for the research protocols.
  • Will serve as an assistant to support all main functions of the department.
  • Works with database development staff to assist in coordinating the roll-out of the new database into the network and any future updates to the database system.


  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare or related field OR
  • Four (4) years of experience in clinical research and/or related setting OR
  • Three (3) years of experience in clinical research with certification.
  • Additional skills include prior knowledge and use of Microsoft Office software produces and the ability to work with a PC database applications.
  • Preferred knowledge of research methodology and prior supervisory and or/ project management experience preferred.

Salary Range: $19.70 to $32.88 / hour
