About the Program
The UPMC Health Plan Marketing Summer Associates Program is an 11-week, paid internship. UPMC Health Plan, the Insurance Services Division of UPMC, is the largest medical insurer in western Pennsylvania with 3.4 million members. As a Summer Associate, you may work in one or more of the following functional areas of the UPMC Health Plan Marketing Department:
Marketing Administration & Community Outreach – This team works on marketing operations, including technology, project management and budget oversight. The group also works on internal communications and events and manages community activities and charitable giving.
Government Segment Marketing – This team focuses on the government lines of business offered by UPMC Health Plan: CHIP (UPMC for Kids), Medical Assistance (UPMC for You), MLTSS (UPMC Community HealthChoices), Medicare and SNP (UPMC for Life). Marketing products must follow the heavy oversight and regulations of government entities, including CMS and DHS.
Market Intelligence – This team uses advanced market research techniques to gather, organize and synthesize competitive intelligence to further the strategic goals of the UPMC Insurance Services Division. The team leverages data collection and analytical skills to synthesize marketplace intelligence into actionable deliverables and value-adding commentaries.
Marketing Analytics – This team gathers data using processes and technologies from across all marketing channels and consolidates it to enable marketers to evaluate the success of their marketing campaigns. The team works closely with cross functional teams to develop and implement test designs for marketing programs and generates insights and recommendations.
Commercial and ISD Non-Health Plan Books of Business – This team is focused on improving the health and productivity of employees and consumers through innovative health management programs and services, access to UPMC hospitals and providers, and award-winning customer service.
Commercial Group Marketing – Comprised of four key areas (marketing collateral development, campaign management, broker communications, and strategic account marketing), this team focuses on attracting and acquiring new Health Plan membership through business acquisition as well as retaining current members.
Print Production – This team manages any printed marketing materials by working with Campaign Managers and Designers throughout the planning process to advise on efficient ways to design and produce. Comparing vendor capabilities such as cost and turnaround, they point out any foreseeable issues, big to vendors, and manage the proofing.
Creative Services – This team of writers, designers, and editors creates content for projects generated by campaign managers and their internal clients. Using rigorous writing and editing and attractive designs, the content is intriguing clear, correct, and properly branded for a variety of audiences in order to persuade them to take a specific action.
Proposal Development – This team executes fully compliant and compellingly written responses to Requests for Proposals across UPMC Health Plan, WorkPartners, and eBenefits for this critical piece of the sales and retention cycle. The team’s primary goal is to support our internal customers (Sales and Account Management) in reaching the finalist presentation stage for prospective opportunities and retaining key accounts.
During your internship program, you will have the opportunity to network with UPMC Executives, give back to the Pittsburgh Community through Summer Associate service events, receive mentorship, enhance your skills with hands-on real-world experience and training, and most importantly, work on projects that make an impact on patient care while gaining knowledge on how we provide Life Changing Medicine. And have a little bit of fun too!
Come spend your Summer with us!
