Description

UPMC Horizon is excited to be hiring a part-time Medical Lab Technician! This role will be scheduled varying shifts with rotating weekend and holiday responsibilities. 

This role performs all laboratory analyses and functions adhering to department policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:
  • Assists with the training of laboratory students in accordance with established programs.
  • Demonstrates dependability, reliability, and independent judgment recognizing priorities to accommodate department needs and acceptance of appropriate authority.
  • Establishes and maintains good rapport and cooperative relationship with medical staff,co-workers, supervisors and others.
  • Exhibits integrity, courtesy, and respect for others.
  • Maintains a safe work environment utilizing proper safety precautions.
  • Maintains confidentiality of hospital and department information with no infractions.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment by daily performance of routine maintenance procedures; maintains supplies of reagents in stock and prepared; performs trouble shooting procedures and calls services.
  • Maintains professional, pleasant and effective communications both internally and externally.
  • Obtains blood specimens from the Nursing Units, Emergency Services and Outpatient Laboratory.
  • Performs and documents quality control according to established protocols.
  • Performs routine and stat laboratory analyses utilizing standard equipment and adhering to department policy and procedure manuals.
  • Prepares specimens for processing and testing upon arrival to the laboratory.
  • Presents self in a positive manner reflected by personal attire and etiquette.
  • Promotes the hospital's image and maintains a positive and helpful attitude toward employees, physicians, visitors, and the community to enhance the hospital's reputation as a health care center.
  • Provides treatment and care appropriate to the ages of patients.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician, (MLT) required. 
  • Laboratory experience is preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • ASCP registration or equivalent preferred.
  • Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
