UPMC Corporate Employee Health is seeking a Medical Office Professional - Temporary to support UPMC MyHealth@Work at the Aiken Medical Building in Shadyside!


The Medical Office Professional will work full-time hours, Monday through Friday, and will have ranging duties to support the department! Responsibilities could include, but are not limited to, making and scheduling patient appointments, assisting customers in person and on the phone, providing information, communicating with various departments, and obtaining and entering complete demographic and insurance information.


  • Greets and assists visitors, physicians, and other staff members.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow all HIPAA and departmental guidelines.
  • Maintains accurate communication including, but not limited to, promptly answering telephones, activating the paging system, facilitating timely faxing, and distributing patient and unit mail.
  • Maintains waiting room and office supplies.
  • May room patients and prepare charts/medical records for review.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Schedule appointments, patient registration, and place follow-up calls to physicians and/or patients.
  • Verifies insurance for accuracy and completeness, and gets appropriate forms completed and signed by patients.
  • Verify necessary information and records in the electronic medical record and computerized scheduling system.


  • High School education or GED preferred.
  • Completion of technical, trade, or any other medical educational training program and/or six-months of medical office experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience with EPIC and/or EpiCare.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite products, such as Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • General knowledge and experience with office equipment, such as copiers, multi-line phone systems, fax machines, and paging systems.
  • Typing skills and working knowledge of word processing, electronic mail/calendar, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Previous experience as a Medical Assistant a plus.
  • Experience with medical front office duties preferred.
