Description

Purpose:
The Developmental Specialist I will provide direct supervision of all children and staff assigned to unit. Oversee and participate in the planning and implementation of all program activities.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist subordinates in improving work skills.
  • Conduct parent/teacher conferences and attend scheduled parent meetings.
  • Conduct weekly unit meetings.
  • Effectively utilize classroom management techniques.
  • Informally assess developmental progress via weekly progress notes.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly environment that meets health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain current and accurate program records.
  • Plan and implement daily activities and learning experiences for children.
  • Serve as a member of the treatment team; and, consistently carry out intervention strategies developed by the team.
  • Supervise practicum students and volunteers assigned to the unit.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, or Child Development with one (1) year of relevant teaching experience required. 
OR 
  • Bachelor's degree in behavioral health field and three (3) years of relevant teaching experience required. 
  • Ability to relate sensitively to students and be consistently responsive to their needs. 
  • Emotional stability, maturity and must show evidence of good judgment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Effectively communicate information to other staff members, parents, visitors, etc. 
  • Supervisory and leadership skills strongly preferred. 
  • May in the course of their job duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 126 Child Abuse Reporting
  • Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management
