Are you looking to begin your career in patient care? UPMC St. Margaret is currently hiring a Monitor Technician to help support our Central Monitoring Department in Aspinwall, PA.

This is a full-time (36 hours per week) position that will require you to work rotating daylight and evening shifts.

As a Monitor Tech, you will perform all activities necessary to the Central Monitoring Department, including some activities in the entire Cardiology Department. Day to day tasks include:
  • Application of flex monitor
  • Continuous observation of heart rate rhythm, pulse ox (if applicable)
  • Follow policy of notifying nursing units of patient results outside of present/ordered limits. 
  • Document immediate identification of lethal and significant arrhythmias and activation of conditions. 
  • Evaluate and document rhythms on holter recordings. 
  • Clerical duties as assigned.

  • Apply quality flex monitors while following hospital and patient protocols.
  • Assist in student teaching and orientation.
  • Clerical duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates individualized care for each patient.
  • Evaluate EKG rhythms on holter recordings and formulate report.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Participate in a performance improvement program.
  • Positive demeanor and supportive practice evident in staff members behavior via consistent and observable interactions including patients / families, physician staff and other health professionals
  • Pulse ox is be used on Pediatric and Adolescent patients
  • Recognize and documents all patient information related to patient care.
  • Utilize the Cardiology and Management system, Information system effectively to ensure accurate departmental data, such as reports, statistics and patient information.


  • High School graduate. 
  • Preferred completion of a Medical Assistant program, Cardiology Technician programs, EMT/Paramedic program or 1 year of supervised training in a hospital setting.  
  • Preferred experience with Windows, Microsoft word, and a basic arrhythmia class through a continuing education course. 
  • Must pass Basic Arrhythmia Test 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of patients. 
  • Ability to obtain, assess and interpret information in terms of the Electrocardiographic needs of the adult, and geriatric population. 
  • Annual mandatory education.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
  • Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
