The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine is seeking applications for a general dentist to work within the UPMC Presbyterian and Shadyside campuses.  The main responsibilities include providing primary and preventative dental care, particularly on hospital patients who are anticipating head and neck radiation, chemotherapy or immunotherapy.  There will be some supervision and training of the dental residents in the General Practice Residency Program.  This position allows for professional growth within a dynamic health system and expansion of the dental care center and its activities.  UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh are Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employers.  Salary and compensation will be commensurate with level of experience and training.

Administers, maintains and expands a program of primary and preventive dental care. 

Performing dental consultations for medical colleagues who request oral and dental expertise so that the patient can undergo treatment and care in an optimal manner without delay.  Delivering general dental care with the ability to refer to dental specialists who are on staff and avialble to assist in patient care.  Helping to develop protocols for evaluation and care so that the staff of various clinics and nursing units will know how to best access and initiate oral healthcare.  Interacting with community-based dentists to provide patient follow up and a continuum of oral healthcare.




  • Assists in the provision of health education to the community as requested.
  • Educates individuals in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion or oral health disease prevention.
  • Examines individual requesting care, diagnoses their dental/oral conditions, prescribes and carries out appropriate dental/oral treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines.
  • Implements appropriate Dental Departmental policies, protocols and procedures which are in compliance with the most current accepted professional standards.
  • Prepares and submits monthly written reports on Dental Departmental issues, concerns, program status, initiatives, and progress to the Operations Manager.
  • Records patient dentist transactions as they occur in the patient's dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided. In addition the dentist shall complete referrals, data collection instruments and other records or paper works as shall be required from time to time by the management.
  • Responsible for personal as well as departmental compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and clinical provision of dental care as well as those relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, work place safety, public health and confidentiality.



  • D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree from a program that is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association required.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
  • Dentist or Pennsylvania Dental License
